Exactly. I don't have to read, I can do my business fine without &quot;literary assitance&quot;, but a nice book is preferred.
(I don't read the newspaper, and I don't tend to read magazines so it has to be a book for me)

I have to read or else I can't take a dump. I probably got it from my dad who faithfully grabs the newspaper everytime he sits on the throne...or I got it from al bundy. after seeing them, I decided to do the same and have been ever since. my trip to the bathroom usually lasts 30mins or more. in fact, my record was probably two hours...with The Hobbit.

My room is right across from the bathroom, so when no one's home, I can leave the door open and watch the TV in my room. If only I could find a place to hide a computer in the bathroom I'd be set....or just move the monitor in there and use a cordless keyboard/mouse. Maybe I should just stick to reading.

I think the reading is a habit that developed as a consequence of the more essential need: having extra paper just in case. But, there could arise all sorts of theories as to why this did not also affect women. Maybe the additonal cloth in their clothing?
It can't be a time related thing, because women have more than enough time in the head to read most anything. In fact, if I had to spend as much time in a bathroom as women seemingly need do, suicide might cross my mind.

I don't have to read. I am usually not in there long enough to even find my place in a book. When I was a mechanic I would do most of my reading in there because it was a great way to relax after work before I took a shower.

I dont read on the john because I find it totally discusting...if I am holding something and reading it while I'm taking a crap, I don't want to touch it again. I don't even like leaving stuff in the bathroom, I dont like my stuff smelling after my brother goes to the bathroom

Reading is good in there. Some peace and quiet (well, except for the overhead fan). Besides, if you hurry, you increase the chances of diverticulosis. No kidding -- look it up.
