booting is getting out of hand. its nothing but blackmail and it should be made illegal for a private company to boot and hold your vehicle hostage until you pay.

Glad I wasn't the only one.

As interesting the story is, it was hard to read and follow. I found myself skipping sentences and paragraphs because I had no idea what he's talking about. I'm still backing him though.

If the guy gets into more legal hot water, he needs to find some ASU law students in the complex and get the law school on his side. I'm sure they'd help, and he'd have access to some motivated researchers and law professors. ;)

Awesome story -- hope it makes the news.

Yup, I can't believe how much power we've ceded to private companies. I hope I never live in an HOA'ed area.

Dude this is a great thread. I read it all this morning and want to let you guys know a little bit more background info.

A little background info on the complex:
- This place was built during the ABSOLUTE PEAK of the housing boom in PHX. As you can tell from the pictures, they attempted to stuff as many houses in as little space as possible, with no regard to parking.
- This complex is pretty close to Arizona State University (2nd biggest college in the nation) and a majority of this complex is owners renting out the unit to college students
- There is such a lack of parking in this complex that it is almost next to impossible to find a spot on the weekend
- They gave APS the contract to fix parking becuase it WAS BROKEN BY THEM in the first place. It never worked, even the second people started living here you could tell there was going to be a parking problem

I hate to break it to you, but most places are HOA'ed these days. We're looking to buy up here (NE Maryland), and every single housing area has a HOA unless it's rural, then you have to deal with well water and no cable service, which we're not keen on (plus the longer commute).

The key is finding an older community with a minimal HOA. I can't imagine paying hundreds each month for a HOA fee. That's absurd unless they wipe my butt for me with silk and clean the toilets.

I just finished reading the whole thing. I haven't read something that satisfying in a very long time. This man deserves a medal.

I hope he emerges victorious. This was cut and dried, IMO.

Even the parking Nazis at University of California, Santa Cruz waived my ticket when I forgot to display my permit back in the day.

The thing you left out is:
-APS appears to be run by zealots who are incapable of rational thought

I don't think he's stuck it to the man yet. Sounds like they are preparing to stick it to him with elaborate court proceedings.

Shit like this is why I bought just under 50 acres of land in the country to build on.

Yes, it clearly states he never refused to pay.
