Guy from Amazon messed up my sister's order..

She put in an order for a Sony CDX-7710, but ended up receiving a lower end model Sony CDX-R30M.

If you do a search on Amazon for a CDX-R30M the CDX-7710 model comes up (but they're completely different models). Any ideas why this is the case? Any tips on how to handle this? She just e-mailed the seller and Amazon about it..

Just let Amazon know about the mistake. One hundred percent chance they'll correct it. From my experience on of the most reputable online vendors period. YMMV

self explanatory.

And yet you still ask what the problem is.

Did she get a better model? If so, keep it.

Is it worse? If so, call and demand correct product, stat.

For something over $20, I'd never buy it through amazon market place. If amazon doesn't have it in stock, I buy it from some other store directly. Buying through market place is asking for trouble.

I never once had a problem with amazon marketplace for textbooks.

Okay, let me break it down for you

His sister ordered a particular model and the wrong model was sent. The fact that the right model comes up when you search for the lesser model is irrelevant to the fact that she did order something different.

If you got the wrong model, contact Amazon and make sure you have a bill that clearly shows which model you were supposed to get. If you get charged for the wrong model, then you might be screwed. Could your sister have possibly ordered the wrong one?

Maybe I should change $20 to electronic goods. I have no problem buying books through market place either.

1) Contact amazon and tell them about the mistake
2) Amazon either reimberses you or sends you the correct product
3) You send the wrong product back
4) ...
5) Post pictures of the said sister and everybody profits.

And yes, I do work for amazon.

Contact Amazon. Even through Marketplace she's covered:

When is a buyer covered under the Amazon.com A-to-z Guarantee?

The buyer provided payment to the seller through Amazon Payments, but the seller failed to deliver the item.
The buyer received the item, but the item was materially different than as depicted in the seller's description.

When is a product "materially different" than what the seller advertised?

If a seller has clearly misrepresented the condition or details of an item in a way that affects its value or utility, it is "materially different" and that seller should be willing to offer a refund or exchange. If the seller does not offer a refund or exchange, your purchase is eligible for our A-to-z Guarantee.

Items are considered "materially different" in these circumstances:

Wrong version or edition
Item condition or details not as described
Wrong item
Missing parts or components
Defective item
Damaged item

BTW, the problem is right there on the page:
While the title says:
Sony CDX-F7710 CD Receiver with CD/CD-R/CD-RW/MP3"
near the bottom it says:
Item model number: cdx-r30m

Which explains why it comes up when you search for the cdx-r30m
