I don't think so; what would motivate a hanging belly to really come back in if no more weight loss is occurring?

Whatever mechanism causes he skin to shrink during weight loss, should work after weight loss as well. Why would it only work while you are losing weight?

It will work to an extent, but some people who've lost vast amounts of weight have these great flaps of skin. Nothing in the world besides a knife will ever pull those things back; they will not self-shrink. Some looseness here and there is plausible but this kind of thing will not self-fix.

And the above pic pales in comparison to what I saw on the dude I made this thread about. His is easily 3x worse.

If I were that guy I'd give it a few months and see what happens. If the size reduces, I'll let it continue its path until a) its all fixed or b) there is an equilibruim that doesn't want to leave. I'd probably try to get that surgically removed and maybe even donated for those who need it only if it will really be with me forever (I'm not a fan of losing weight through surgery. It would be a good lesson never to get that fat again lol.

Of course...I'd also start lifting lifting weights and regain muscle to help it a little bit. Results would probably be slow, but I figure it'll take a year until I could definitively say if my skin has indeed decreased its size.

I wonder how much of that 90 lbs is muscle?

The same time I was joining the air force there was a guy joining the marines at meps that lost some rediculus amount of weight in half a year (100+ pounds) and had a similiar affliction it really does look awful.

This. His skin was screwed by virtue of the fact that he made it to age 40 at 290 lbs. Too old and too fat for the skin to rebound. Genetics plays a big role here too. There seems to be a big variety in skin elasticity among people. Some people seem like they can look at a box of donuts and come away with a stretch mark.

Losing the 90 lbs in 4 months probably doesn't matter as much as people think. The rule of thumb I've heard is to wait up to a year for the skin to do whatever shrinking it's going to do. But from what I've seen in before/after stories, if you've been 100+ pounds overweight with a significant amount of abdominal fat, you're almost always going to be left with a pannus. You stretched it out and then you're left with a deflated balloon.

It's extremely hard and complicated for overweight/hard gainers to see optimal results. I'm lucky I have a good genetics and I've played competitve hockey all my life. When you lose weight too fast, it's common to see stretchmarks and extra skin. I don't understand people that willingly go to the gym don't read up on weight training. It doesn't even make any logical sense for someone to go from an obese lifestyle, probably throughout his whole life, and then move to a healthier, leaner style and expect to have shredded abs. It ain't gonna happen. Lesson learned I guess.

What? No, 45 pounds in 2-3 months is 45 pounds in 8-12 weeks. That's 4-5 pounds a week which is terrible for you. Read the fat loss sticky at the top of the forums. If you're doing it right, you should only lose 1-1.5 pounds of fat per week. Seriously, read the sticky.

Oh here's an idea... can he just get super ripped and huge, stretching his skin back out?

I'm sure he could, but he'd still have stretch marks. Plus you can only get your abs so big. It wouldn't stretch that area out enough to have a taut covering.

I'd take ripped + stretch marks over flappy skin any day.

Can he put his arms out to the side and float through the air? Like batman, or a flying squirrel?
