...not have the decoder enhancements of Kabylake. Outside of the decoders I don't think there will be any performance difference per EU (before taking eDRAM into account) when comparing Skylake and Kabylake. Or so it seems!
Hmm. I am going to have some fun. Remember that article about Polaris being delayed and the leader of RTG wanting to move themselves to Intel? Also they say the new Intel leader(not the CEO) fired 1,000+ graphics related guys.
Perhaps, maybe just perhaps, the serious delay and the lack of performance with iGPUs have to do with this? What if the GT4e was so delayed because the team necessary for its launch got fired? Haswell GT3e was Q3-Q4 2013. We should have seen Broadwell and Skylake eDRAM versions 6-8 months ago.
If Intel can effectively manage RTG*, I'd be happy if that happens. It'll essentially be Radeons + Intel process. Granted Intel seems to be losing their process lead, but even on par, they'll be far better off. In reality, Intel will be Intel and screw up RTG and end up dismantling it because of cultural differences that inevitably exist between two leaders.
*Ideally it should be what RTG is doing now + Intel's money/tools/support/process. Graphics should be left alone by rest of Intel. Let them do their work.
