Most families are protecting themselves fine without guns....so what do you guys think about the families who believe they dont need a gun to protect themselves?

Then...how do they protect themselves? Rocks?

So you NEED a gun to protect yourself?

Need? Maybe, maybe not, depends on the individual situation. BOTOH if someone is coming uninvited into my home, I do not want to give up any and all advantages I may have over them.

Besides, most families that are "protecting themselves without guns" are thinking that either their home security system is going to get the cops to teleport to their location in 10 seconds, or just not doing anything and hoping no one every wants to force their way in (which is what a very large part of America does). Personally, I'd rather have 8 rounds of 45 ACP at my disposal in 15 seconds than 15 cops arriving at my house 8 minutes after calling them. Eight minutes can be a very long time...

The real question is: Why shouldn't I?

There is no reason why any law-abiding citizen should have to justify his constitutionally-protected right to gun ownership to anyone else. A gun is a tool, no more. Saying that a citizen should not be allowed to own a gun is like saying that he shouldn't own a butcher knife for his kitchen or a chainsaw for his property.

"There are no dangerous weapons. Only dangerous men." - Robert A. Heinlein

Knives aren't just personal defense, they are extremely handy tools. I still ask myself how people get by, day to day, without a knife. How do you cut things open? your teeth? your keys? LOL!

My dad gave me a pocket knife when I was 5, I have always carried one since then. I will continue to carry one for as long as I am able. The only place I was not allowed, was at a concert one time...

You are well within your rights to make that decision for yourself, but would you tell (as mentioned earlier) a 90 lb. woman that she would have to make do with pepper spray against one or more 250 lb. attackers?

No, I would hope that a 90 lb female would have more common sense then to let something happen to her. Yes, violent crimes do happen, but often times, it is because your in the wrong place at the wrong time or you just arent aware of your surroundings. I would tell a 90 lb female to defend herself with her own common sense.

I rarely need a knife to open everyday things. Infact, I cant remember the last time I needed a knife to open anything. I usually just rip sh*t open.

Dont tell me about the city. Im in the city everyday, and Im aware that violent crimes happen, but I do know that with a little common sense, it is not necessary to carry a knife around with you.

So you would not only take away an individual's right to defend themselves but their freedom of movement as well? Does your foolishness have an end?

It is because naive individuals such as yourself would deny law-abiding citizens the right to protect themselves that 90 lb. females have to worry about being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

It's so dumb. You're not gonna get attacked. There's no reason to promote violence having weapons in your possesion. Yeah obviously he doesn't wave it around, but it's not setting a very good example carrying around a knife.

I call them potential victims.

Seriously, though, guns are equalizers, they turn a 90 lb female into the equal of a 250 lb robber, rapist, etc.

The sad thing is that the media has been shown to underreport crimes stopped by the use of guns, it's just a matter of time till the general public becomes complacent enough to ban guns in the US because of this kind of crap.

I think the location of a person influences their opinion on guns.

For example, me surrounded by idiots, in a suburb, in the middle of frickin' Massachusetts :| :| :|

Some of us are fathers with daughters who are dating/will be dating soon.
You need to be able to instill the necessary fear into her suitor's heart. He's got to know that you have a gun, and not be 100% sure that you won't use it if necessary.

Would you really want to live in a world where everyone carries a knife or gun on them at all times? Can you imagine what would happen. Road rage would turn into murder and fights over parking spaces would result in casualties.

I remember when I was like 13 and my sister was 15, a guy came over to take my sister out on a date. My dad had his AR-15 out and was cleaning it on his lap... It was freaking hilarious. The guy went running out the door (jokingly), but he got the point. :D
