I would back this. I think for 'most' people some military training would actually do them good. The caveat being that the rich and powerful can't opt out.

Or even better if you want to shoot fully automatic or semi-automatic weapons then you can do so by joining the military. They have lots of toys for your to play with. Otherwise you can continue to play with your revolvers, pump shotguns and bolt or lever action rifles none of which should have at the most 6 rounds.

You haven't lived until you've shot a machine gun grenade launcher with high explosive rounds. Holy shit that's fun.

I think it's fine and makes sense and is in keeping with the literal wording of the constitution. The only problem is the constitution uses the term militia which can be interpreted very loosely and may thus be seen as other organizations besides the reserves. That being said, there should be room for states to regulate the definition of official militias.

Nope. Won't work, stupid idea anyway. I'm an able bodied adult, that makes me part of the militia. Also, rights protected by the constitution don't require one to join the armed forces, that's... silly.

No need to even go that far. Just make those "toys" available to rent/shoot at gun ranges only. Get your small dick jollies off without having to own one.

I don't think simply being able bodied equivocates to automatically being part of a militia. I guess my 86 year old pastor is part of a militia. He's able bodied and still gets around and does stuff on his own. Also my 13 year old niece is also part of a militia? What about my pregnant cousin?

Militias like religion or terrorist organizations must meet a certain definition.

Rights can require registration and metrics of qualification for maintenance of use. They also can be stripped (as we do of convicted felons) and never returned.

Google results of "What is a militia in the constitution?"

This is why I specifically mentioned that. But I'll admit, I thought it was between 18 and 64, it says 18 and 45. I imagine today though there wouldn't be an age limit, age discrimination and all.

I'm sure it is. Why can't we do stuff like that in safe controlled conditions like ranges/attractions where we could pay to shoot guns some of us only dream of without having them circulating amongst the irresponsible? Gun tourism could be the next big thing.

I'm going to start calling you people out for stupid questions like this. You know who you're talking to. You know the answer to your question.

Did I read it? No, it is a CNN piece. Not in the mood for their propaganda today. I went by the title and P&N post at face value as I'm of the understanding the're supposed to be accurate.

Sounds like a win-win to me. Unconventional? Absolutely. But I doubt you'd find a better compromise through legislation.

The cost per round would be prohibitively expensive to use it like fireworks. Instead, join the Army, get a MOS 91F under your belt and Weapons Valhalla awaits you. The downside you ask? It's getting weapons turned in to you that are so cringe worthy to look at you'd think they got dragged by their slings hanging off the back of a Vee going through a driver test course over at Aberdeen Proving Grounds. ;)

what if your older?

That is simple. If you are not able to be a part of a well regulated militia the 2A does not guarantee your right to bear arms. That includes the young, the old, and the infirm of body or mind.

I think it's fine and makes sense and is in keeping with the literal wording of the constitution. It uses the term 'well regulated militia' which means that the militia in question should be regulated by the state and does not mean, as is all too often used today, just anyone that wants to call themselves a part of a militia or as a certain slow member of our board is trying to say 'just everyone.'

I would challenge this. I think we could have a lot more fun than that examining what you define as fun. Unfortunately, for us to do that you would have to honestly be able to look at yourself and to do that we will have to examine the notion of taboo. You may find that what we will discover isn't very flattering to your self defined notion of ego:

Let's take a look at what we mean by "holy shit". What are you feeling. Well, that's the problem isn't it. You don't know because you would consider yourself to be diminished of esteem if you did, I think.

So I will have to do the analysis that I see in me for you. I make the assumption that it applies because I also believe we are all the same:

Holy Shit is an emotional high that draws its thrill by getting close to the forbidden, by experiencing vicariously, feelings you would consciously deny. The thrill comes from having a moment in which you can imagine yourself blowing 'the enemy' up as you unleash power, the vicarious feeling of destroying something evil, you wielding death to the supposedly deserving. For the moment you get to unleash the violent ape within you, experience the rush of narcotic brain chemicals within you. What you call fun is being 'the killer' triumphant over your hapless victims. You get to be the tough guy instead of your usual life as a victim of victim mentality. Now that's some real fun, a brief reprieve from your usual emotionally empty but unnatural state. This would be meaningless to you had you 'real life' were you able to love with infinite grace.

And naturally, because you don't want to hear this, you won't.

Just know that if you are ever driven to despair, the truth won't call you worthy of shame and guilt but will set you free.

This is a near universal condition of illness and we are all the same. The truth can't be kept from any who deeply need it and seek with honesty.

Sex with two extremely hot women is more my style (it was great), but whatever gets you off I guess.
