Gun carrying citizen stops Bank Robbery

Kinda a dumb move IMO.

Bombs beat guns every time. Banks are insured.

Unless he could tell the guy had no trigger device , walk up and blow his brains out from behind, and disarm a bomb if he found it, he should have held off.

If the guy were agitated or something and rummaging through his pockets? Light him up.

Honestly, I'm glad that a gun was used to stop a crime, but it seems like it was taking unnecessary risks considering that the guy wasn't too likely to blow himself up. I would think that the best time to use a CCW permit would be if someone was going to lose their life or get seriously harmed if the weapon wasn't used. It could be argued that this was possible in this case but the odds don't seem too high.

Well, the guy was obviously not the typical CCW holder as he was with the Lebanese army for 9 years and obviously trained well with small arms. A typical person probably wouldn't have acted the way he did. He trusted his skills and acted as such and I think he did a good job.

do you think he acted appropriately? I mean i don't think he took the welfare of anyone around him into account. but whatever, good to see no one got hurt

yeah yeah, P&N, but I hate that place..... seems so P&Nish.

I think he did take the welfare of everyone around him into account. How was he to know that the robber wouldn't take hostages or do something rash?

He took control of the situation, rather than letting the robber have control.

Huh?

So if the guy WAS likely to blow himself up, it would be okay? IMO, THAT is when it WOULDN'T have been okay.

While I have no doubt that the man in the article had better training than most, you are aware that the average CCW permit holder has significantly more firearms training than the average police officer, right?

The vast majority of police officers are only required to train with their sidearms twice a year at a firing range. The majority of CCW holders practice twice a month or more. Innocent bystanders are significantly more likely to be shot by a police officer using a firearm than by a legal CCW holder using a firearm.

The fact that police outnumber CCW holders by a very significant number is probably of no interest to you though.

In reality, I don't want people engaging in a gunfight over something as petty as money when I'm around. Fuck the damned money.

CCW politics aside, why does it matter who outnumbers who? The very fact that so many officers are so deficient in firearm training should have the people they're supposed to protect up in arms. But wait, courts have decided time and time again that they have no obligation to protect a citizen from harm.

Gun carrying citizen stops Bank Robbery

Nice story but for balance it should be pointed out that a heck of a lot more gun carrying citizens have completed bank robberies than have stopped them. 😉
