i've played asura and charr. i was really into the idea of playing a charr... but the horns make them seem too much like cows/tauren. i was into the catman thing.

i like the asura size for pvp... i know i'll still be noticed and can still be found easily with target nearest, but just the fact that you could hide behind other people makes it kind of worth it. i will say though that the size also has drawbacks when engaging in combat or targeting on/around hills.

the storyline was pretty engaging for both though. i imagine they probably all are though.

still have no idea which race/class i'm going to play. have it narrowed to charr/asura mesmer/thief.
 
what about the 2nd scepter skill--the confusion-based laser beam thingy? is that putting out decent damage/confusion effects?

It's ok dmg, but i rarely use it, start with illusionary counter , ether bolt, duelist, switch to staf, cast warlock, phase shift

rinse/repeat
 
Difficulty went up - DE champion mobs (like cave troll and rotting oak heart) impossible to solo and requiring 5 players for some comfort,

Veteran mobs tricky if they have some regular mobs supporting them.

Regular mobs - 3+ can kill you quick if you are slacking.
 
Yes, difficulty did seem slightly increased from BWE3, I was once again using my heal skill which I literally almost never used during the entirety of BWE3 on my Guardian (up through level 14).

That's not exactly 'screwed you over'. That's 'gave you the best price before offering an even better best price'.

But FWIW, I sent them a ticket asking if they'd match the current price for people who bought the pre-order earlier.

haha yeah you're right. i guess it's more buyers remorse since I picked it up before the first beta weekend and still haven't installed the game yet. good deal though. GMG has been coming through on pre-order deals as of late.
 
Did anyone in the recent stress test tried the new supersample render settings? I couldn't tell the difference. However, I was already running the game at 2880x1800 resolution on my 1920x1200 monitor.

Whoot! thx for the tip! I was bummed I missed out on there last sale..did get a newegg preorder for 47.99 though but it had to ship and no head start...but this is much better lol..

So can we download the game now for preparation of the head start or do we have to wait for an *official* version of the game?

you can download any current build once your account is registered.

some have had it since April.

the 3 settings that impacted graphics performance most were the rendering levels (subsample, default, supersample), shadows, and reflections.


on a 7950 i had ~100-120 fps using default rendering, no shadows, no reflections.


if i turned on supersample i could get about 50-60 fps. it did look REALLY nice and i could see running it for pve... but i'm sure it will tank in WvWvW.

this was all at 1920x1200 btw.
 
Dumb question, but I prepurchased from Gamestop and have registered and downloaded the client already. That means I'll be able to get in on the three day headstart?
 
Don't really want to start a war, but I tried the last beta weekend and really don't look forward to playing this game. Is there a way to give the game away to someone else? I really don't want to give up personal account info, but I also would hate for the license to not be used.

you'll probably have to get a special request from ANet. ANet accounts were linked to original registration--so whatever email you used for GW1, would be your email for GW2, and they weren't really letting anyone change that--so it would seem impossible to sell it someone else without also giving up your email?

I assume ANet will be accommodating, but who knows. :\
