you have to start somewhere

Pfft... half of them are celerons that are taking about 6 hours a piece to do a single task. Though I did just finish rebuilding/reinstalling my personal desktop, I'll be interested to see how it does. Now if I could just snag my wife's laptop...

I got everything set up last night. Threw on a bit of an O/C since it is cooler out now and I need something to heat my living room  But I should be running 24/7 with a 3Ghz C2D - I don't think I'll be able to keep up with videogames101's quad core, but I can try :D

You're still pumping out a ton of credits with them

I'd be counted under new crunchers since this is the first time I've installed any of this.

I'd like to remove myself from consideration for the GW: Nightfall prize. I already have NF & EotN on my acct, so there's really no reason for me to make a new account just for NF. I'm still going to crunch and get out as many credits as I can, but I don't need the prize :)

I have had someone donate their account for the contest as well. He has characters, and all 3 campaigns. I'm not sure how I'm going to integrate the new prize into the contest, but I'm working on it. Also, updated stats will be done tomorrow morning. :)

your just using a C2D? something must be up with my crunching then, because your doubling my output...

It's overclocked. Docking@Home says it's 2.4GHz, Canai said it's 3GHz.

Just found out that my 3 Linux machines were artificially being held back - the kernel had power management downlocking the cores from 2.2GHz to 1.0GHz. That has now been fixed. :)

 Our last project (TAS changes projects every month) was Yoyo@home, and it is highly optimized, so it runs very hot. A co-worker (actually my future supervisor starting 01NOV08) started crunching his quad on it, and he calls me up saying that his quad was overheating at 75+ Celsius. I told him to replace the stock cooler when he bought it.

Have you checked in the BOINC preferences? There are options for total CPU time usage and multiprocessor usage.

I also took my cpu up to 3.37 the other night, and BOINC is showing 45-55 minutes per WU. I'm going to see how far I can push the chip this week, since it's finally cool enough outside to get some sub 20ºC air into my comp room :)

My average credit is still going up yay. I wonder what it's going to peak at.

Yeah, I'm wondering the same thing. It seems to continually go up.

A couple things that amuse me... an Atlhlon 64 2.0GHz is faster than a Core 2 T5200 @ 1.73GHz. A Pentium D 2.8GHz manages to hang very close to the above two machines. Funny to see different architectures at work.

Not enough visitors in PC Gaming or Distributed Computing forums. Should ask mod if posting this in Off Topic would be ok.

I would have thought there would have been more signing up too. It's a bit late in the game at this point, but I guess we could do another contest with a new prize in OT.

Sounds good. It is multi-category, after all: it's gaming, contest, and distributed computing all in one :wink; I have a Half-Life Steam account (all HL games, from HL1 to HL2:Ep 2) and some other stuff to give away. The more prizes, the more people get excited about participating :)

I scared everybody off didn't I? :(

On a side note, the next contest I join I won't likely have the full force of machines behind me. I got fired from my previous job last week when I turned in my resignation (got a job offer elsewhere and the boss wasn't too happy with me because of it) - so a dozen or so machines are no longer under my control... at least not directly. :)

LOLOLOLOL

I would run up all the comps at my job, all quad core cad comps, problem is, i can't risk the stuff saved on these computers. If only I had your balls.

I've tried to convince the IT people here to install DC clients on the comps in the lab, since they are all on 24/7 anyway. They haven't even bothered responding.

We had a "test bed" of machines that literally sat idle doing nothing other than to occasionally test our software against when we ran a new build. That happened maybe once every couple weeks. I actually started installing BOINC because I thought we had an issue with our software running on high CPU load machines, so it was a perfect test, and to be honest, I was really the only one that ever did anything with those test machines anyway. No one cared - small very informal company. Happy to be moving on to be honest.
