Updates
03OCT08
Existing crunchers can now participate in the contest also! I will keep the existing crunchers in another category than new crunchers, and we will have a prize for each category. Also, stats are posted
Background
Distributed Computing is essentially the concept of using many computers to accomplish a single task. Programs installed use the spare cycles of your processor to perform calculations for projects ranging from from mathematical purposes to finding cures for diseases. TeAm AnandTech is a collection of AnandTech Forum members that crunch together as a team.
The Contest
This contest is designed to get new people introduced to the world of Distributed Computing, as well as find a use for an extra copy of GW:NF CE that I have laying around. It's all in the name of fun. We will be crunching the BOINC project Docking@Home, which has relatively few TeAm members and is a good stable project. The stats for the contest will be posted in the DC forums (link will be inserted once contest gets underway). Permission for this contest has been granted by the AnandTech Moderators and TAC, the 'leading members' of TeAm AnandTech.
The Rules
-There are two groups of the contest. The first group will have crunchers new to Docking@Home; the second group will have crunchers new to DC. So existing crunchers are welcome too.
-The winner will be the person with the highest credit at the end of the contest.
-The contest will run for three weeks, beginning immediately and ending on 21OCT08
-Forum members wishing to participate will have to post their name that they are crunching under in this thread.
-To be eligible, joining of TeAm AnandTech in Docking@Home will be required so that stats can be tracked.
-The prize will be shipped by me, by the method of my choosing. I'll get it there as soon as I can.
If you have any questions at all, feel free to post in this thread, post in the Distributed Computing Forum, or PM me.
