This poll shouldn't be anywhere close to 70/30. This is a tech forum, damnit.

I always say "Graphical GUI Interface" because I like to be redundant. I like to be redundant, so I always say "Graphical GUI Interface."

Not everyone here works professionally in the tech field, and as a consequence isn't exposed to how certain acronyms are pronounced.

Gooey just sounds so "foreign" to me. So thus, I say GUI. But, at the same time, I can't remember the last time I said GUI in a conversation anyway, so it's a moot point.

I work for a software company, and none of the programmers speak the letters G U I, they always pronounce it as gooey. Also SQL is pronounced sequel, and SCSI is pronounced scuzzy. We were even taught in school using those pronunciations.

^ this.

I'm astonished at the results of this poll. Gooey, Sequel, Scuzzy, etc are used because it makes conversation easier for people that need to use these words all day long. I doubt that any of you use Random Access Memory instead of ram, or Serial Advanced Technology Attachment instead of sata. Use the spoken form of the acronym and be done with it.

I know, right? It should be closer to 100% for GUI, the correct way to say it. But then again I guess we have a lot of younger, less educated folk here.

Yep I guess buy speaking out each letter of the acronym you are proving your intellectual superiority. Good work. Pat yourself on the back.

Lol at the IT guys who will smack anyone who says G-U-I. Nothing strikes fear in the hearts of men like an angry IT nerd. Yes, you're a nerd if you get that worked up over the pronunciation of GUI. And yes, I'm aware that all nerds know at least three forms of deadly hand-to-hand combat.

It's a surefire why to identify yourself as a noob if you don't say gooey. If that turns you off just say UI which is just as acceptable.

in the back of my mind i always thought it should at least be pronounced as a one syllable acronym, "gwee". or like how "gui" is pronounced in "guido".

Wow 32% of people voted GUI. Even worse than that is we have people trying to defend their vote by saying gooey sounds stupid.

Years ago this forum used to be such a nice place to discuss advanced computer junk, now we have to make multiple posts explaining how power consumption is a function of more than voltage and have people trying to convince us that Gee You Eye is how to say GUI.

I never pronounce something that isn't meant to be and I laughed at people who pronounced ISA and URL like words... "yourel" = WTF?!

When I first learned that GUI was supposed to be called "Gooey," I switched. That was about 10 years ago. Heck, around 6 years ago Taco Bell even used it in thei Quesadilla commercial. They called it a "hot new hand-held," a "PDA" (I think the "D" stood for "Delicious"), with "GUI cheese," and the puns went on. They expected their viewers to "get" it, so "Gooey" is fully accepted even outside the techie world.

The only people that I've ever heard say G.U.I. are marketing/sales folks, who apparently don't know any better. I've been in the electronic hardware/software business for over 30 years, and all the technical people I work with say gooey.

All the technical people you know haven't been laid in 30 years either. They apparently don't know any better than to use words like "gooey" and don't realize how nerdy it makes them.

I say oo-sah (USA), user (USSR), prik (PRC), derp (DPRK), oo-ee (UI) to name a few. But when it comes to GUI I say G-U-I.

Well, since I've been married for most of that period, you may be right :).
