Did you note the convex screws on the VF1? Page 5 of the Toms review shows what I'm talking about. This might be your problem. It seems the convex screw raises the contact on the heatsink and doesn't allow it to touch the GPU core on X1800 and X1900's. I've read multiple accounts of this, you either have to grind down the head of the screw or find a flat head screw with the same threading.

Bummer- how were the temps reading with the stock cooler?

Maybe it's defective? There is no way a properly installed, working VF-1 is worse than stock.

70C max load. I'm installing the latest drivers (uninstalled the chuck patch) and seeing if it's a bad temperature reading . . .
UPDATE: Well loads are now in the 90s instead of the 100s after I updated the drivers. Sigh, I'm gonna put the stock cooler back on . . .
Are the X1900s much hotter than the X1800s? Because I don't understand how people are getting 50C loads with the VF1 mounted on X1800XTs . . .
Also I noticed a few scratches on the VF1 surface . . . would this affect temps much?

Personally if I were going to use air cooling this is the cooler I'd go for.

Yeah I was considering the V1 Ultra as well but I saw great reviews on the VF1 and saw other users get great results with it so I decided to get the VF1. And it DID cool my volt-modded 7900GT REALLY well, but doesn't seem to work so great with my X1900XT.
BTW, stock heatsink back on and even with the dynamic fan, load temps are going much above 71-72C. Definitey not a sensor problem.
Oh well, I'll probably just sell this and get the V1 Ultra or Accelero X2 . . .

::SIGH::
I may have to mod a 7900 GTX cooler to fit on my x1900 ;-)
