Killing about 10 huge flies. I don't know where the hell they came from but they make loud buzzing noises when they fly and are downright annoying.

I have been killing them with a home fragrance spray, a bottle of 409, and a paperback copy of the firm by John Grisham.

Trash is empty. We never let it build up. I can only figure they got in from having the garage open for a hour or two the other day.

Wait brb I see another one.

Edit- Three more confirmed kills. They look like large house flys but have greenish blue asses.

My first year in my house I started spotting similar looking flys and found out they came down the chimney. There were probably fifty flying around inside the fireplace behind the glass doors. I used Raid to turn that fireplace into a gas chamber. Found out that the damper was open. Haven't had any problems since.

That could be it. I will check the damper later today. I think I got them all right now. I might let my roomate get them if they come back.

Get a copy of "Lord of the Flies" to smack them with, give them something to think about.

;)

(I was raised on a horse ranch, talk about fly problems)

and the worst part is, there is never only one. I think the breed to birth cycle is like 30 minutes for those things. I live out in the sticks and get those occasionally. And its usually a group of them. They are slower than a regular fly and luckily easier to smack down.

I had the same problem about a month ago - they came out of nowhere and just kept coming for a couple weeks. They stopped though

i misread "flies" as "files" and was wondering why the hell it took you 20 minutes to do that... then i saw "loud buzzing noises" and i thought "IBM click of death". the flying, and killing them off with a home fragrance spray set me straight though,

At home, we have a couple of electric fly rackets... they kinda look like a tennis racket, except the strings are electric wires powered by a battery...

You try and hit the fly with the racket while it's powered... the electricity on the strings will zap the fly and kill it instantly... The current actually "suck" the fly into the racket so it's easier than it sounds... If you keep the racket powered after the fly is sucked in and attached to the strings, it may actually explode and burst into flames... quite fun... :)

These are quite popular in Hong Kong, since a lot of the apartments are built on the side of mountains... my parents brought a couple over when they visited...

What I can't stand are fruit flies. In the harvest season (we live in a county where lots of grapes are grown) we get invaded and there's really no way to kill the little buggers.

personally i think i would rather have the risk of wasps than the risk of killer bees like here in AZ. ;)

all you need is dish soap and water. <- kills flies, and ants too!

ants have some protectant coating around their body that make them immune to water. but if you add soap, it seeps through that coating and kills them on the spot. learn this all from my high school marine science teacher.

Insects are worthless...I wish they'd all go extinct - and I'll just find something else to eat, there must be some food not related to insects - maybe I'll try seafood....

BTW- how do you kill insects with soap and water - a spray bottle maybe?
