Will bring my savings to $130 and going with a 6950 over a 6970 can leave enough room for a $220 1920x1080 monitor so i can get out of the stone age with my 1600x1200 now.

Don't touch anything with FX in front of it.

I really recommend a 6950 2gb over a 6970, there's absolutely NO reason to ever pay $100 extra for a 6970 when 6950s are almost certain to over-clock to 6970 speeds or beyond.

You've said money was not the limiting factor, so don't go for an FX 4100. Note that no one criticized your choice of the i5-2400 (I think I might have planted that one in your head, actually), because it's solid for non-overclockers. The FX 4100 is not. In some games it will lose to an A8-3850: http://www.legitreviews.com/article/1766/13/. Wow, just wow.

As for the GPU, I'm actually going to go with the GTX570 here. But not because of MSAA, which the GTX570 most definitely cannot handle at 1080p. Rather, it's because the GTX570 is slightly cheaper and offers more consistent performance than the HD6970, as shown in the apples-to-apples [H] comparison linked earlier: http://www.hardocp.com/article/2011/11/22/battlefield_3_multiplayer_performance_iq_review/4.

If you find an HD6970 for the same price, I'd go for it just because it's slightly faster in most games.

6970. you want the 2gb to last you for 2 more years.

MSAA is a waste in bf3. The dev worked hard on the fxaa/morphological aa and it shows.

I own a 6970...though I think I will be swapping it out for a 570 I just bought for my brother. All the benches I've seen for BF3 show the 570 beating out the 6970. Add the further overclocking potential of the 570 and you basically have a 580. I really don't think VRAM is a issue until you get into multi-monitor gaming.

i5 2400+halfass h67 and no matter which mobo i pick i will get the option of a gtx560ti only as my best option.

1090t+970 offering sata 6 and usb 3.0 with full 6 port audio for my 5.1 with options ranging me from a 6950 to a gtx560 ti 448 core to a gtx570.

Frys may have a pny gtx570 for $310 if so thats my first choice with a gtx560 ti 448 core as my second if they carry it at the $310 or lower price tag with the 6950 in a close third.

The i5 2400 i wouldn't think of building without a heatink the stock is garbage and the msi brand as a whole i hate and avoid.

The 970 choice mobo offers all the msi offers and more for less with better quality overall and the 1090t has a decent heatsink for minor overclocking.

Given the price difference, I'd get the 1090t. It's a fine CPU, and you're getting the platform features you want for a nice price. I think it should drive BF3 just fine. See my post in a separate thread to show why:

Whereas the 1090t isn't usually better than the X4 CPUs, the extra cores really make a difference in BF3. When pushed to the limit, it will provide the same minimums as a 2500k, which is the key issue.

Based on the other thread you have going, I know you've decided on the 1090t anyway, just giving you more backing for that decision.

Silverforce - in general, that's good advice, but the OP already has BF3 and has been trying to play it on his dual-core without success. Given a set budget, SB/Z68 without a high-end VGA isn't the best solution for playing BF3 right now.

This build will have to be it sadly,cutting back on spending of pc parts.

Not gonna go batshit crazy for BF3 the only thing i will be getting is a ssd in the later half of next year when prices drop maybe to replace a 3 1/2 year old seagate 1.5tb and a new monitor.

2 years ago heck i would have boughten a 980x and dual gtx295s but idk the hobby for me is sorta dying with fewer game titles grabbing my interest and making me want insanely speced towers...

Frys had some sort of intel cpu dry spell the only cpu in the entire store was a dusty i7 950 for $299..apparently intel according to a few workers has had manufacturing and shipping issues...

The 1100t was the last on the shelf being a returned one in fact and i guess the intel dry spell had people going and scooping all 1090ts..

Overall i love the build

One bad stick of memory ended a 6 year streak of zero out of the box dead components and my first build to give issues on initial first boot up due to this stick...

That's a great build. Congrats. So how's BF3 treating you now?

What brand of memory did you buy? If you manually set your frequency/timings while just the 1 stick is in, you might be able to use the second stick. For instance knock it down to 1333 cas 9, or even 1066.

The kit was patriot g2 low profile dual channel 8gb.

Well the memok red led on my motherboard would flash red with both sticks.

Sometimes it would boot with both hitting the memok button sometimes reset a few times then it would randomly get going not booting mode again.

Putting them in different slots as a pair i might get lucky then finally after dicking around driving myself looney i put one stick at a time in...one stick boots...second does not.

When i got a boot it would run on auto but dram voltage was at 1.5v at 1333mhz..thinking the motherboard was being picky about the voltage i raise it as high as 1.68 to see if this gets the thing going.

It trucks on for about 3 reboots till finally it decides to not boot up again with the memok red led on the mobo flashing.

Hit the memok and everytime it goes out of b*tchmode and boots i get f1 overclocking failed...bios is 0705 about 3 months old so gonna update to the latest 813 and see what happens.

I did end up testing both sticks by themselves in all available slots the one stick simply refused to boot in any slot....

Unless one stick simply does not care for the auto while the other one does?

I will try setting it manually then ill slap it in...ill report back in about 20 mins or sooner with my results.

I have both cards. They are close in performance and each one shines in certain games. I don't think you will go wrong with either. Best thing to do is get the one that runs the games you want to play the best.
