The price for the GTX460 1GB is about the same as the GTX465...actually the 465 is slightly cheaper at $205 on newegg AR, with a free coupon for Mafia 2. Which one is a better buy performance wise?

I also hear the 465 is worse with power usage. I have a 585 Watt PSU. Would that be enough?

I hear you can unlock the GTX465 to the GTX470. Is that true?

Performance per watt, definitely the 460. Get the 460 and overclock the core to 800 MHz (which will get you 1600 MHz on the shaders due to 1:2 ratio lock).

There is no question 460 is the better card. 460 bests 465 in every performance metric available to mankind. Don't count on unlocking, it not worth taking a chance.

Wasn't only the first few batches of reference cards that could unlock? Even if you could, the unlocked 465's were barely stable at 470 standard clocks

Yes, it was either PNY or Zotac (do not recall exactly) which has higher probability that unlocked.

Cheapest GTX 465 on newegg right now is the MSI twin frozr. $235 - $23.50 with code Neggvga10 - $60 rebate = $152 with Mafia 2 game free. Some people have had trouble with MSI rebates though. I've only done 1 MSI rebate in the past. It was a pita to do but I did get my rebate from them. If all works out and you sell the Mafia 2 code your looking at getting a GTX 465 with a good cooler for about $130.

That's a good deal even if you hang onto the game, again "if" the MSI rebate goes through without issue. Grrr...almost pressing the order button, almost pressing it. Someone stop me! I live in California so I'd get hit with $17.45 in sale tax. Still a decent deal at $168.94?

you have a good psu and a nice case for airflow. I say go for it,and don't forget to overvolt and overclock that puppy.

The only reason I can think to get a 465 over a 460 is if you are doing GPGPU stuff. Otherwise the 460 is an all around better buy.

Well 40$ cheaper and a free game is another good reason. Especially one with the MSI twin frozer cooler.

Wow...the MSI GTX465 is an incredibly good deal. I'm very, very tempted to buy at $151 shipped...

I would probably sell the Mafia 2 coupon also, since I hear it's not a great game. Do you know if it's okay to sell it here or on eBay?

You should easily sell it for 15/20$. You should be able to sell it here or ebay.

Auggghhhh! I thought I would save some money now...I'm not sure anymore...

So, the GTX465 performs worse than the 460? Why is that? I'm under the impression that the GTX465 has a more similar core to the GTX470, and the GTX460 is more gimped, but is clocked higher. Does the GTX465 not OC well?

The msi gtx465 runs cooler and is quieter then a 5770.
http://www.guru3d.com/article/msi-n465gtx-twin-frozr-ii-review/5

Should net you a 200+ core overclock.
From the review..................
"Though the screenshot does not yet display it, just max out the voltage and also increase fan RPM control to 60% RPM. The cooler will become hearable then, but still remains at very acceptable noise levels.

CHeck the review, overclocked it matches or beats a gtx470 and 5850 easily.

Coupon code, Neggvga10 = -23$
well that still not $151 "shipped". he will be waiting about 3 months for that $60 rebate. if that coupon applies to gtx460 then go with that as most of them come with games too. heck with EVGA cards you will be getting at least 2 or 3 games once you register on the website last time I looked.

235- 83$ = 152$ 60 for the rebate and 23 for the code.

So 152$ - 20 bucks for the game if he sells it = 132$ for the best gtx465 you can buy?
Thats not bad at all dude.

Is it likely that my system will be able to handle the load from the overclock with a 585 Watt PSU? It is dual rail btw.
