Going for the 6gb should be obvious, doubt many people buying a 3gb gtx780 are that bad off where they can't afford the 6gb version.

That is simply NOT true. High res textures need almost no additional graphics power and that is the very thing we are going to see. Again I have mentioned 3 examples RIGHT NOW that will peg 3gb of vram at just 1080.
The textures don't, but the game engine does. They don't just ship the same game engine over and over and use bigger and bigger textures. That's not how it works.

Also what 3 examples are those?

Watch Dogs has been proven to stutter even on 6GB cards. Furthermore some people with <3GB report no stutter.

Crysis 3 will fit into 3GB even with the texture pack. I run it @ 2560x1600.

So that leaves Wolfenstein, and we don't even know if he even has that game.

And yes we all know your silly gpu limited scenarios. Most people want 60 fps and reduce settings to get that. Your logic was that if your cpu was crappy and only gave 40-50 fps then crank settings and make it gpu limited. None of that even matters right now anyway.
My logic was to run the games at the settings I play them at. If I was getting 40-50FPS it's because I was GPU bound, but I refused to drop below native.

In those scenarios I demonstrated that even underclocking the E6850 down to 2 GHz had little effect on the scores, despite the collective internet whining otherwise.

It's like back in the day certain individuals were running around claiming to get an Q6600 because it'll be "future proof". Where are those obsolete Q6600s now? Dual-core Haswells mop the floor with them in terms of performance. So much for "paying extra to future proof yourself".

To tell someone not to spend just 10% more on their gpu to double the ram is beyond ridiculous when 3gb is already starting to become sketchy.
Not really, "sketchy" is just internet mass hysteria, just like when people were running around 3 years ago and claiming you need a quad-core or you'll be sorry.

He can put that 10% aside and save for a new GPU, or to buy a bigger monitor. Both of those will have a far bigger impact than 6GB. By the time 3GB becomes an issue his card will be far to slow elsewhere to worry about it.

I suppose back in the day you were also telling people to get 64 MB GF2 MXs to future proof themselves as well? :awe:

so you don't understand the thread yet you are not even using real AA and still almost maxing your vram. :whiste:
If he's talking about TXAA then he's very much using real AA.

Daylight is the other game. and are you really advocating to save 10% on the cost of a gpu because you think that 3gb is plenty? I am sorry but that is a pretty short sided thing to say. that extra 10% will ensure vram will not be an issue during the time he owns the card plus give it better resale as games start to use more vram. and again games that offer higher res textures or games where you can mod them in are going to use more vram so please stop saying the card will be irrelevant before 3gb of vram will.

and why do you keep bringing up your silly quad vs dual core debate. that has no real relevance here. do we really need to cover the fact that you like to crank settings so as to make the cpu less important where many people prefer to adjust settings to achieve 60 fps. so to cripple the framerate down to 40 fps does NOT mean that a quad core and or faster cpu is not better for gaming.

keep on debating the 6gb vs 3gb issue though as if 10% matters when you are spending over 500 bucks on high end gpu that you want to get the best use out of for a couple years.

EDIT: and btw did someone give that Titan to you as it would make no sense for you to have spent 1000 bucks on a gpu.

I think it is well worth even 20% more the cost to go 6g if it is going to prevent problems in any upcoming titles.
better that than a have $600 card that you cant use at higher settings right?

This is pretty much my logic behind it. When building a new system, why spend $500 for a 3gb 780 and possibly have a vram issue down the road if I can have piece of mind for an extra $50 - $100 for a 6gb 780? I know that if I skimped now when putting everything together and it did turn out to be a real bottleneck a year from now I would be really annoyed. I want as much future proofing as I can get for as little as I can get it. :p

Maybe I should have kept my 4GB GTX 680 and not upgrade to a 3GB GTX 780ti. Normal 6GB GTX 780 I don't think was enough of a performance boot from my GTX 680 and I didn't want anything slower than a 780ti. If there was a 6GB GTX 780ti I would have bought one if it only was $50 more than the 3GB model. I can't justify a 6GB Titan Black.

Wouldn't 3GB vs 6GB video card be in the same line of thinking as 4 core vs 6 core CPU in terms of the future of gaming and recent games, eg, Watch Dogs.

Thanks for your suggestion... From where can I get the EVGA GTX 780 6GB? because I cannot find anywhere that can ship to Malta (Europe).

Thank you!

I did a Google shopping search and foud two vendors which are more than likely based in the U.S so i don't know if they ship to Malta. I searched on eBay UK and found one 780 with 6GB. I checked Novatech which is based in the UK and found no 6GB cards. It is damn hard finding a 6GB 780!

I just noticed that Newegg no longer has a listing for the EVGA 780 6gb? Before it was simply out of stock.

I'd choose SMAA over MSAA every time, Watch Dog's Temporal SMAA is even better.
