That is simply NOT true. High res textures need almost no additional graphics power and that is the very thing we are going to see. Again I have mentioned 3 examples RIGHT NOW that will peg 3gb of vram at just 1080.
The textures don't, but the game engine does. They don't just ship the same game engine over and over and use bigger and bigger textures. That's not how it works.
Also what 3 examples are those?
Watch Dogs has been proven to stutter even on 6GB cards. Furthermore some people with <3GB report no stutter.
Crysis 3 will fit into 3GB even with the texture pack. I run it @ 2560x1600.
So that leaves Wolfenstein, and we don't even know if he even has that game.
And yes we all know your silly gpu limited scenarios. Most people want 60 fps and reduce settings to get that. Your logic was that if your cpu was crappy and only gave 40-50 fps then crank settings and make it gpu limited. None of that even matters right now anyway.
My logic was to run the games at the settings I play them at. If I was getting 40-50FPS it's because I was GPU bound, but I refused to drop below native.
In those scenarios I demonstrated that even underclocking the E6850 down to 2 GHz had little effect on the scores, despite the collective internet whining otherwise.
It's like back in the day certain individuals were running around claiming to get an Q6600 because it'll be "future proof". Where are those obsolete Q6600s now? Dual-core Haswells mop the floor with them in terms of performance. So much for "paying extra to future proof yourself".
To tell someone not to spend just 10% more on their gpu to double the ram is beyond ridiculous when 3gb is already starting to become sketchy.
Not really, "sketchy" is just internet mass hysteria, just like when people were running around 3 years ago and claiming you need a quad-core or you'll be sorry.
He can put that 10% aside and save for a new GPU, or to buy a bigger monitor. Both of those will have a far bigger impact than 6GB. By the time 3GB becomes an issue his card will be far to slow elsewhere to worry about it.
I suppose back in the day you were also telling people to get 64 MB GF2 MXs to future proof themselves as well? :awe:
so you don't understand the thread yet you are not even using real AA and still almost maxing your vram. :whiste:
If he's talking about TXAA then he's very much using real AA.
