That's just dumb. a 4 years old 1366 can play everything today in all it's glory..GL playing anything well on a 9800gtx or 4870.

U should have saved your processor $ and then afford this card.

When did the 7990 launch? Not sure if that was for the 6990 or 7970...I'd assume 7970.

But I agree, the flip flopping from both sides is disgusting. Now price isn't/is an issue?

ANd if the HD 7990 launches hot and power hungry, then it won't/will be an issue? Yuck!

After I read this, which made me read it a few times:

Improved Frame rate Metering

Kepler introduces hardware based frame rate metering, a technology that helps to minimize stuttering. In SLI mode, two GPUs share the workload by operating on successive frames; one GPU works on the current frame while the other GPU works on the next frame. But because the workload of each frame is different, the two GPUs will complete their frames at different times. Sending the frames to the monitor at varying intervals can result in perceived stuttering.

The GeForce GTX 690 features a metering mechanism (similar to a traffic meter for a freeway entrance) to regulate the flow of frames. By monitoring and smoothing out any disparities in how frames are issued to the monitor, frame rates feel smoother and more consistent.

You should care though. Remember all the defending of the 7970 pricing and how people bought them regardless? A few months later guess what? Gtx670 is now a voltage locked gtx 680. 690 is now a $1000 card. Gtx 670 is rumored to be $429.
So yes if people are willing to pay $1000 for a dual gpu king then you bet NV is gonna test the waters with $600-$700 single gpus and the lower tier drifts up too.

No, they don't..

Nvidia is the one that needs a complete revamp --- they only have ONE chip being produced at this point. What is wrong with their process that they can't manufacture their chips? It's a great chip... But when they can't make enough of it, and all their time is being spent on this one chip, it's cause for concern.

Maybe this is just a perception thing, but it strikes me as extremely insecure that Nvidia is sending off their halo card immediately.. Not only does it scream "look at me!!!", it really does expose the bigger problem --- right now Nvidia only has their GK104 chip.. No GK107, no GK109 or whatever.. That's a problem.

AMD just started a completely new arch, and they are not that far behind Nvidia at this point. Hell, a simple refresh of Tahiti chip will pull the power numbers down and get the clock speeds up. Then your looking at AMD in the lead again (for how long, right?).

I agree, but they priced it according to performance. It's almost spot on with 680 SLI, with excellent power consumption for a dual GPU card, so they really have no reason to sell it any cheaper.

Pointing out a problem is one thing, claiming a potential problem for some users who notice microstutter then making a general statement that AMD CF is bad or non-functional is fanboyism to the core.

So next time its best to rephrase such statements, perhaps as such: "if you notice microstutters and its a problem for you, NV may have an edge in multi-GPU". Note: "may" because frame-time is a poor measurement as attested by the original techreport's own writer of the microstutter article.

ps. The price at $999 is perfectly justifiable, its a HALO product, it offers similar performance/OC headroom as gtx680 SLI with a significant power use reduction and less noise than SLI. Just because its expensive doesn't mean its a rip-off. There's plenty of ppl who would buy it at those prices, not going to be an issue at all.

I agree to ur idea but then again 590 was considered a turd because some guy killed the card while overvolting 🙄.I think this rule should be applicable for both camps.

My address is to anyone who makes such absurd claims. They need to take a step back and smell the coffee because a lack of scaling in a game or two is nothing new to multi-GPU ever since it originated back in the days. Skyrim CF was broken for a few weeks, [H] and a few users here over-reacted. I don't recall the same reaction when Dragon Age was broken for SLI for a few months, not just lack of scaling, but corrupt textures as well. They are both AAA+ games.

Looking at AT's own gtx690 review, CF scaled very well in most of their small game list, even beating SLI in a few games. Is that broken? Don't be stupid please.

As to microstutter, some users notice it, some don't, its an individual subjective phenomenon.
