Considering their out of stock at most places, and where you can find them in stock they are priced at or above $600, I'd say there is a shortage.

Can you grab one at any time? No

Can you get one if you want it? Yes

Is demand fully met? No, but they aren't hard to get.

Just check the amazon and newegg pages a few times a day and the worst that might happen is that you might not snag one until the next day. They both get some in stock almost daily, they just don't last overly long. Amazon had some of the Asus card this morning. NewEgg had some yesterday, probably more today.

I have to wonder if people saying they aren't available aren't actually trying to buy one, because if they were, they'd already have one I am sure.

I have 2, but given the power savings, price parity, and OC'ed performance parity, I'd almost rather have one of these except that it would be a SPOF where right now, I have a spare.

You have to wonder how much AMDs performance/noise/power/driver woes play into this card being $1000...

Anand stated:

In the games where they are getting good scaling, [H] notes that playback isn't nearly as smooth as SLI. :(

I tend to agree-AMD need to ask themselves what the point is of producing excellent hardware if they aren't prepared to spend a bit of cash on proper driver support. I for one would be in the market for 7970 trifire if I thought it would work consistently well in games.

What an utterly obtuse and asinine statement. Blaming AMD for Nvidia's price gouging? I'd hate to think what they'd be charging if they had no competition? Your statement speaks volumes more about Nvidia than it does about AMD especially if rumors are true that nvidia is purposely holding back on GK110. Nvidia managed to beat AMD in a segment that affects less than 1% of gamers atleast until 7990 yet are no where to be found in the mdrange.

Is it worth it to wait 6+ months just for a product that will be 5-10% faster? No thank you. Enjoy it while it lasts nvidia.

These cards are about $200 too high. $800 seems more reasonable.

To you maybe and to me it's worth nothing since I dont do sli again. However to market, They will sell all they can make @ $1000. You won't find them in stock.

There is no competition, that's the point. 7970 CF is worse in every way and their drivers are currently broken. :hmm:

Clearly this card is for three types of buyer
1. Single (no wife/kids)
2. Wealthy ($1000 insignificant)
3. Totally irresponsible (can't really afford it but buys anyways)

I don't fall under any of those. The honey I just spent a grand on a video card talk would go over like a lead balloon.

Yay, thread is turning in to another "hurray for my side thread"

:Sigh:

Really wish the mods would clamp down for a bit to stop every single thread from becoming an AMD vs NV nuh-uh/uh-huh thread.

If this card had more effective memory per GPU, I'd buy it. Don't feel like paying $1000 for something that is overkill for today's games, but is definitely not future proof at eyfinity-level resolutions.

Still have high hopes for big Kepler. Or who knows, maybe AMD will hit one out of the park with the 7990.

Shame well overpriced, but Nvidia can charge anything for top dog ;).

My thoughts exactly. Its a shame though that some people get into a hissy fit when AMD charges for a top dog.

I honestly never expected them to charge $1000 for it though...maybe $850, but then I guess it would cut into their 680 SLI sales.

Yeah I got my WS setup last night, still waiting for some more parts but I already have 4 470s so I put them all in for giggles and you should have seen the look on my girls face... "Do you really need four graphics cards??"

The sad part is these are cheap cards!

LOL, it's indeed hard to see a reason to buy premium stuffs,
expecially when cards are over 60 fps in 90% of games, and costs like half

Again this reeks of sensationalism. Nvidia won in a segment that affects less than 0.0001% of gamers in the same way that a sub 1million dollar Bugatti might be considered a good deal. How many gamers are now swearing off SLI/CF because it's not what it cracked up to be. How many gamers are now jumping to AMD because nvidia had NO answer in the midrange market this gen. None. Zero. You don't become top dog by catering to 0.0001% of the population.

Nvidia needs to step it up and release their products in a more timely manner in accordance with the competition. AMD is the one leading the market and nvidia is just reacting always 2 steps behind. AMD also needs to step up their driver department.

They will sell all they make, that is for sure. nV back on top. AMD needs a complete re-vamp, and they need to get CF working again. I would add another 7970 if I thought it would be worth it.

Overpriced for the performance. Way to go Nvidia

A. I dont think you are in the market for one anyway

B. These are halo cards that are going to sell out immediately, why not make the highest margin?

C. What I freakin paid was overpriced for the performance.

All the kiddies who were just loving the 7990, even though they could never afford one, are now downplaying the fastest card on the planet. Classic.
