That thing's gonna cost an arm and a leg. I wonder what availability'll be like.

That was half of what I was thinking after reading "The Big Announcement." The other half of my thoughts were "That's it? That's the BIG announcement? Here's our Unobtainium Card! Buy two of them NOW!

$1K? I get it; it's NViida's Halo Card. I get it. But you mail out crowbars to tug on the heartstrings of those of us who cut our PC gaming teeth on Half Life...so ou can show us a card that isn't worth buying unless you're filthy rich, stupid or both? :\

Why wasn't the rest of the lineup mentioned? Or to put it more accurately, why weren't the cards that will generate 90% of the profit for this family of cards mentioned? That's what 99% of those who give a crap about these types of things (that's YOU if you're reading this) really were waiting to see.

Disappointing release is disappointing.

@toyota, my oc 7970 is about 70% faster than my 6970. And your 570 isn't faster than my old 6970. So a 680 stock will be at least 50-60% faster than your stock 570

a 670? not for 400 bucks. also I really want over 50% more performance improvement and even the gtx680 cannot fully deliver that.

GPU buyers expect way too much!!

Look at Ivy Bridge, delivering non-tangible IPC increases whilst not even able to OC as high as SB.. or risk burning your PC. It's going to be a smash hit.

Well that was deflating. I was expecting to wake up to a nice overview of all the new GTX 660 and 670 cards.

I was actually excited to find a new card to replace my aging GTX 460. Guess i'll have to wait longer. It would be nice if Nvidia could speed up the process of getting affordable kepler cards in our hands....... :(

I was expecting a mid range announcement last night, alas, nothing. If they're truly going to go on sale in the next couple weeks, NVidia needs to provide details to sway perspective buyers, I've been waiting for a little over a month now on some news of a $300-$400 card from NVidia, and am tired of waiting.

I may just buy a 7950 and quit waiting for NVidia, judging by their production of the GTX 680, they won't be able to maintain 4 GK104 SKUs with the 670, 670Ti, 680, and 690 (the 670/Ti models still being strong rumors, but not official).

I feel your pain. I'm also tired of waiting and have been very tempted to buy a 79xx series AMD card. But personally and in IME, I've been happy with NVidias (mostly always) stable driver releases and good performance. I've had AMD cards in the past but I'm sticking with NV for now...but I am getting really tired of waiting.

I agree. My WC highly OCed 470 did P6400, my 680 OCed on ref air does P10500. A 64% increase. My 470 was OCed to 890mhz, so it was on par with a 570 and nipped at 580 speeds. Oh course this will depend on the game, but 3Dmark is a good barometer.

look at reviews and you will see that a gtx680 on average is less than 50% faster than a stock gtx570. heck techpowerup had the 680 at only 40% faster overall at 1920. I am not paying 100% more for a next gen 28nm gpu than I paid for my old 40nm gtx570 just to get less than 50% improvement overall.

I am in the same boat, I will be buying something (28nm) in the 250-400 range before May 15th. Would be nice to see what NV will bring to the table in this regard, but time marches on...

Check 1440p reviews or review where the 680 barely gets 60 fps and ignore those reviews where every card in the market can max out. Just check games like bf3 crysis and other intensive games

And it isn't barely 50%, it is approx 50% stock vs stock and sometimes 70-80%

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/555?vs=518

In skyrim for instance it is nearl 150% increase due to VRAM!

Future games will be like 60-100% faster partly due to VRAM.

Wow, when you get into 1440p it close to a 100% improvement in some of those games.
