Brandon, I'm personally not a fan of the 580 1.5 GB card, but EVGA has a B Stock (refurbished) product for $299. Slightly out of budget, but it's an option.

put your sarcasm ... you know where .... (censured)

sounds like 580 is better but if my friend can't afford that so better go with 660 ?

we can buy both ... 580 and 660 for same price .... in my country it's possible .... so what a card is better on same price ???

I cant see why you would buy the 580 even knowing that the 660 is a little slower. I mean, the 660 will be a lot easier to run in a PC. It will need less power, produce less heat, and is probably smaller so it will fit in more cases.

Not a good idea to buy last gen cards. Just get a GTX 660, it'll consume only half as much power as a 580.

okay so 660 is better :) smaller , and equal or a bit slower then 580 ....
so there won't be problem with AA on 1080P yes ?

depends on how high on AA as if you intend to use High AA a HD 7870 would be better suited than a GTX 660

yes i'm a AMD fan but that doesn't affect my suggestions in any way. Due to the GTX 660 192Bit bus it will tank when 4x AA is applied ? So if you want to use 4x AA a GTX 580 or HD 7870 is the best option

also at the same time if you get a GTX 580 look for a 2GB one as when heavy AA is applied with ultra settings the VRAM usage can go past 1.5GB in some games ? I know you don't like AMD but the HD 7870 is a good choice as it can be oc'd to perform the same as a stock HD 7950 while still using less power than a GTX 580 ?

y 580 with 2 Gb could be ideal :D but there is only 3 Gb version , and they are expensive :S

i know that 7870 can be even clocked to 7970 ....

idk .... if 144 Gt/s is not enough for 1080P .. then even 660 TI will not do AA great :S

yea that's why we recommend a HD 7950 or GTX 670 over a GTX 660 Ti as it doesn't do very well with High AA and Higher resolutions. I just say go ahead and get him a HD 7870 its not like he would mind if its AMD or Nvidia

I don't think half the power consumption is worth sacrificing for a little better AA performance.

Peak power consumption (Metro2033)

Another problem with a GTX 580 is that you can't find one for a reasonable price unless buying used. With a new 660, you will get full 3 year warranty, while a used 580 has possibly been overclocked or otherwise tampered with.

FWIW, in terms of gaming performance, it would've been better to buy a 3570K and a GTX 660 Ti or 670 instead of 3770K and a 660 non Ti.

I agree with you 100%, kinda ass backwards the way he funded his build especially if he is a avid gamer.

I would get the 660 for the decrease in power consumption. Also, I would just disable MSAA and use an SMAA injector. MSAA is way to expensive and isn´t even that good in BF3 IMO.

SMAA ? never used it .... it is a lot cheaper ? i run myself on 670 power edition so do not have to turn off AA :)
