my friend plans to buy GPU For BF3 :) he has I7 3770K and 8GB ram ....

he has like 200-250$ .... so what a card will perform better in BF3 ? on ultra 4X MSAA .... resolution is FULL HD ... 1920x1080 ....

so better go for old GTX 580 or for GTX 660 ?

According to this, the 660 is slightly ahead in 2 out of the 3 resolutions/AA modes that BF3 is tested at. Its probably also cooler and quieter.

a HD 7870 will be better especially with higher res and AA

Anand shows the 660 with a 20% advantage at an 11% higher res than what he's running. And with 4xMSAA the 7870 is already at 40fps, so if anything he's likely to use less AA.

Funny question. Common Sense says GTX 580 which is faster then a Ti . 580 is out of your budget its 400ish. Grab a Ti card and OC it and set fan to 100 percent when you game and enjoy the card. You cant go ULTRA settings on BF3 tho. With a 580 you can.

Get the 580 if you plan on playing high graphic settings or Ultra settings. Get the Ti if you play with medium or high graphic settings. What resolution you playin at ?

You make a new topic like this every week for a month or more. Just buy something already. By the time you do BF3 wont be popular anymore.

No look at the benchmarks I (and others) posted, in most cases it looks like its BETTER than the 580.

EDIT: Sorry I take that back, looks like the 660 is a little slower than the 580.

Still it will be cheaper and much cooler to run.

i looked at benchmarks :p and yes .... it's cooler , cheaper and a bit slower ... like 5% i guess .... but it will get more performance with drivers , won't it ? ^_^

Any reason it has to be an nvidia gpu? For that price range the 7870 will perform a negligible difference in some games and much better in quite a few others at stock, and then you have the 20% or so overclocking headroom on the 7870.

However, looking at prices right now the 7870 is around $250 at the cheapest so it becomes harder to recommend over the gtx660's you can get around $230.

it's hasn't to be ... ti must be nvidia .... BF3 is optimized for nvidia an most games to ....

please do not make this Thread abut nvidia vs amd ... i only ask about 580 and 660 ... that's all .... Thank you ...

true but GTX 660 has only 144/GT s ...so can it use more then 1.5 GB ???? or 2GB is just marketing trick ???

2GB is not a marketing trick. BF3 is at 1.5gb usage for 1080p maxed, sometimes a bit more. The extra ram will be good.

Wait for the next ~$200 7870 deal or have him mow a yard or two and pick up a $280 7950.

Lol lets make it 1001 times. tell him to overclock that 3770 and get a radeon 7870.
No really I've seen just about every thread you've posted here, you should have some idea
Now on what your friend should buy. Get him a 660 and be done with it since you aren't fond of ati.

Brandon, you're among the silliest poster on these boards. Get a 660, your friend can't afford a 580.
