GTX 460 - 768mb or 1gb?

I'm planning on purchasing either of these cards over the holidays and I was wondering if the 1gb is worth it for the $20-30 premium. I'm playing mainly Starcraft 2 and World of Warcraft on 1920x1200 resolution. I don't mind overclocking a bit, but nothing extreme.

I'm running this atm:
Windows 7
E8400
EP35-DS3L mobo
4 GB ram
Corsair HX520 PSU

Will the 1gb make that much of a difference over the 768mb version?

the 1GB version averages about 10% faster. In some situations where you run out of video memory, it could be a lot more. Depends on you if you think that is worth $20~30 more.

I personally think it's worth it, just for the peace of mind alone (at the resolution you're using). I have a bad memory of the 8800GTS 320MB. It fell off the wagon pretty quickly, as did the 8800GT 256MB and HD3850 256MB. The GTX 460 is fast enough to take advantage of 1GB, so that's what I think you should get.

at 1920x1200 its certainly worth the extra cost. not only will want all the performance you can have but 768mb is already not enough in a few games. I would oc that cpu to 3.6 to help get the most out of that gtx460 too.

Agree with above posts, extra VRAM and Mem bit bus will provide more horsepower at 1920x1200 and the 460 in general can OC well without voltage increasing.

Definitely 1GB, but since you're playing at a relatively high resolution, I think it would be a good idea to look at a 470 or Radeon 6870. At least try to find a 460 with a high factory overclock (850+ MHz). A GTX460 1GB at stock is barely enough for 16x10.

wrong.

gtx 460 768 is good up to 1680x1050. I use mine there and it's fine in every single game I play, even at stock. The issue is that when you get up to 1920x1080 and especially 1920x1200 you will sometimes run out of video memory even on current games. not often, but often enough that it would be annoying. as cusideabelincoln stated, the card is fast enough for 1gb, 1gb is the right vram for your resolution, pay the extra $$ for 1gb. I know you don't like oc'ing cards, but you're wasting your investment if you don't at least bump it up to 850 or so. just buy a stock card, download afterburner, and you've got a card that's ~ gtx 470 on the VERY cheap.

Get the 1GB unless you are really, really strapped for cash. Its worth the extra $40 in the long run.

looks like 5850 is $170 AR this weekend at newegg, that's even better than gtx 460 and looks like it's about the same price right now.

I have a PNY 460 1 GB that comes clocked at 765mhz, and it has absolutely no problems whatsoever with any game except Crysis on Enthusiast settings, and this is gaming @ 1080p with max settings, at least 4xAA and 16xAF with High Quality texture filterting enabled in all the games. BFBC2 for instance, I am getting 40-60 fps with maxed settings with 8xAA and 16xAF enabled.

Yeah, that's a really good deal for that card at that price

Thanks for all the responses, it looks like the 1gb is clearly the better pick for me. Just a quick question, would my power supply be able to handle it? I'm not running anything extra other than three hard drives.
