You mean the X2, right? With the 4850 benching around a 8800GT, you think a 4870 will beat the GTX280? Pass me some of what you got over there!

GTX 280 is Nvidia's stimulus check video card release. :p

Wow, the prices are crazy. You know, with the economy the way it is, people will buy the more affordable option. Regardless who has the performance crown. Personally nvidia was my next choice but with ATi's new offerings they look like they will reign over the price/performance area. Nvidia isn't stupid and will soon follow suit. $630 for a graphics card? No thanks! The $200-$300 market is where ATi is and thats where most of the market will be buying. Good news for ATi and bad for Nvidia.

Word. You could buy two of the new 4800 series cards for the price of one of the GTX's. CrossFire FTW.

Figured I'd post this for folks interested in a GTX 280:

Well I had placed an order for a GTX 280 from Newegg today but there's a 35% cash back deal going on over in Hot Deals. Picked up a GTX 280 for like $450 bucks, but I think that's still $50 more than what people who never spend $600+ on video cards are willing to pay.

Hot Deals Link

Even Hotter: The vendor I bought from is Mwave, which means you will get EVGA's warranty......incredible deal, not sure how long it will last as I'm sure MS has some kind of promotion cap.

Very interesting. How exactly did you get it from Mwave though? From that thread, it appears that it can only be used on ebay items.

I would buy it in a heartbeat at that price. I have been itching to upgrade for a long time now and was only going to wait a week or two for the price on that card to fall.

Mwave was selling it through their Ebay storefront. My invoice and charge all say Mwave, I just forgot to make the connection to MultiWave Video on their Ebay listing. There's still an XFX listing on there which I should've gotten as it comes with Assassin's Creed, it seems like some people are only getting 10% now though. Good luck!

it seems to be dead now, it was a MS + merchants (like ebay) deal that gives you 35% off any single item purchase up to 250$ cashbacks...
Some wise people found out that someone is sell 6 x 100$ bills on ebay for 700$. which gives a 245$ cashback so you buy 600$ with 455$...

It is MS giving up on buying yahoo and decides to buy their users away... "buying the users one search at a time"... But 35% was too abused, it went down to 10% only VERY fast (I think in under a day)... some people made some money.. but now it is stuck to 10%.

Still, 65$ off is nice.

Thanks for the auction link. I got in on one too. I was hesitating on it earlier, but I happened to have the search page still open a few hours later so the 35% discount was still in effect. :)

Did you receive ebay's email on the cashback yet? I'm not sure if they only send you that after you pay, or how they link your ebay account with your live one (which I created). I got the generic "item won" email but it says nothing about the cashback. I took a screenshot of the final page showing the $230 cashback discount, in case there is any trouble.

I'll need a get an 8-pin PCIE adapter from somewhere, as my power supply is a little old although otherwise sufficient. The XFX model apparently doesn't include one.

Some people say those adapters are fire-hazards. I have no knowledge of this first-hand, and could be total BS. I thought id at least throw the rumor out there so you could research or someone could chime in.

I think that only applies to the ones that convert a single 6-pin to the 8-pin, not the dual 6-pin ones. At any rate, they come with most of the other brands like the EVGA and BFG cards, just not the XFX one. I can get a new power supply if the card exhibits instability, but I would prefer to avoid that if it isn't needed.

These adapters seem to be strangely hard to find though. I can't find the dual 6-pin variety for individual sale anywhere. I might need to ask around in FS/FT and buy one off someone who doesn't need theirs.
