I'm playing the PS3 version. I'll also pick up the PC version when it comes out. I did the same with GTA4. I can't wait to see it on PC. It looks great on PS3, but it is screaming for 1080p+ with AA, AF, and high resolution textures at 60fps.

I broke down and bought the PS3 + GTA V combo ... this way I can play a few other PS3 games I have been wanting to... and just sell it in a few months if I want the PS4.

GTA IV was hands down the worst console port I've ever come across. The horrible pc optimization made it stutter and give framerate issues on most high end pcs of that time. It was only after the third patch iirc that things started looking better. Even then it was in no way as optimized as some other games like Max Payne 3.

Haha, they patched it to 1.4 and things got A LOT better, and by patch 1.7 it was worse than version 1.0 :p

Im not expecting a playable GTA V on PC, rockstar SUCKS at programming for PC.

That really isn't true. There are many entities known as "rockstar" in different US locations - they created Max Payne 3 which was an excellent game IMHO. GTA IV was annoying mainly because of issues and bugs with GFWL, but GTA V (if it is being made for PC, we don't know yet) - it will not have GFWL.

GTA IV, at least IMO, was annoying because of its extremely poor optimization and performance and the overall driving mechanics. I also always had problems using they keyboard to navigate menus (it would double press keystrokes when I would only hit it once, but this could have been a keyboard issue).

The team that ports GTA to PCs has always been rather poor, possibly with the exception of GTA 2. I don't recall having any real complaints about that on PC, but I never played the console version.

Make sure to play The Last of Us, Journey (PSN), and Uncharted games for a start.

GTAIV was probably one of the first games to really tax the consoles actual GFLOPS capabilities. Remember that Xenon has 128 bit VMX units on each core and dedicated a whole core just to Euphoria alone. IIRC the PC version does the same thing, a whole core is dedicated to Euphoria. The PC version also has higher CPU-bound settings like entities distance and count, therefore taxing CPUs much more. I wasn't surprised by such relatively piss-poor performance, even with my quad-core Phenom II.

Expect quadcore Sandy Bridge and beyond Intels, and 6+ core FXs to deliver the 60 FPS you expect in a GTAV port.

Ah, I see. Admittedly I bought the PC version "late" when it was on sale after having played the 360 version a ton. Perusing google now seems to indicate GTA IV was a disaster when it was launched on the PC due to performance issues.....

This game is great and I'm enjoying it immensely.

It also looks fantastic on my 360, even though mine is a pre-slim model.

I'm not in the business of waiting around up to 7 months, or more... for a version which isn't even guaranteed to happen at all. Do I expect it will happen? Sure. Do I prefer to play games on my PC? Absolutely.

Though, honestly, I've been dealing with a lot of PC bugs lately... lots of games crashing on me, either to desktop or rebooting my entire system... or games minimizing to desktop, or just never starting in the first place. I had a hell of a time getting Outlast to work. Witcher 2 was giving me crashes... lots of others.

So yea, it is nice to just play something which will run and run, and never crash.

And again, the game looks fantastic on my 360. Playing it on a 40" Samsung LED TV from maybe about 5 feet away... I could and would play it on that same TV using an identical controller via PC, but sometimes it can be a bit of a headache to get games to appear on the screen I want them to. Max Payne 3 was one that I played that way, and I seem to recall it was quite cooperative so I'm sure GTA V PC will be too.

But I would strongly encourage any of you to just cave and get it now... especially if you have a console already. There's so much to do in this game, that there won't be any reason you can't play it again on PC. I intend to.

Well, for my part I'm not playing anything with a controller. So as far as I'm concerned the game isn't out yet, and if it never gets released for the PC then it never came out and I don't have to think about it anymore.

The funny thing about that, is even when I bought GTA 4 for the PC, I used a combination of the 360 controller and KB/mouse.

Nothing beats a mouse for the shooting parts, but nothing beats a 360 controller for the driving parts (except of course if you have a wheel peripheral).

My biggest issue with GTA 5 so far, with controls, is firing from a car. You hold down LB to fire, but you cannot aim before doing that... really strange, since most other options in the gameplay feel pretty good on a controller.

Loving the game so far. Got up to the top of a very high building and jumped off... only to find I don't have a parachute yet. :hmm:

I just hope that the porting gets same attention it did for MP3, I was impressed with that one as well.

After getting hyped by reviews and looking for clues of a PC version, I found something I didn't know whether to laugh or be sad about:

There was an actual petition NOT to port GTA 5 to the PC, roughly 10k signed it...

https://www.change.org/en-CA/petitions/rockstar-games-dont-make-a-pc-version-of-gta-v#news

I just saw this too. Mind baffling! The arguments used there are...shall we say...less than intelligent.

I did the same thing... :|

But I also want to play Gran Turismo 6, and can use the PS3 as a media server for my living room.

Only played GTA V for about an hour last night, seems fun. Didn't get to do much yet...

PC version of GTA3: Vice City came out 6 months after the PS2 version.
PC version of GTA3: San Andreas came out 7 months after the PS2 version.
PC version of Grand Theft Auto 4 came out 7 months after the console versions.
PC version of GTA4: The Lost and Damned came out 11.5 months after the console versions.
PC version of GTA4: The Ballad of Gay Tony came out 5.5 months after the console versions.

I hope it doesn't take long for V to come out on PC :(
Someone explain to me why the long delay? I don't understand. I'm sure PC will sell like CRAZY! What's taking the piss?

Cheezus we KNOW it will come on PC. There is plenty of "evidence" for this, including the leaked code, the fact that ALL other GTAs have been released on PC, even Amazon Germany lists it already however without a date.

The question is WHEN.

Entirely unfounded (!) rumours I heard somewhere talked about that it will be released this DECEMBER. (Again, this is nothing but a rumour, I cannot back this up whatsoever!).

BUT..logic could be...if console sales are that great as they are ($800M in 24hrs)....Rockstar may well think about releasing the PC earlier than the normal 6 months or so period since there will not be such a requirement to milk the console versions, sales are ALREADY exceeding their expectations I'd say which MAY allow them to release earlier.

Mind you that the release date for a PC version is an economical decision, above everything. For what it's worth, the PC version may even be finished already. (However, I'd say this is unlikely).

So...an "early" release is *plausible* (assuming they are beta testing AND the game would be finished at that date). I do NOT buy that nonsense with the Russian dude claiming he is a beta-tester....but then again....he put an awful lot of work in there including making those "V" icons.

(Early December makes sense since this is before X-Mas.)

If they announce a PC version at the same time as a console version they will of course lose A LOT of people buying for console because they will wait for the "better" PC version. Isn't this obvious?

Hang on. It took them 7 months to port GTA:SA and it still looked like that?

actually, yes it is. they want to get the most money they can for the game. look how many people in this thread alone are going to buy two copies, one for console and one for PC.

do you think game companies don't know this? gimme a break.

What does it matter? Rock star still makes money from every sale.

For me I am playing it on ps3 but I am going to get it on PC when it goes on a steam sale. I won't double dip at $60.
