IMO, any new content should be free since there is next to no online content to begin with. Other than the "prettiness" this game has been a huge disappointment in both single player and online. :(

Are you kidding? The singleplayer for me was something like 75 hours and the multiplayer as well as having something like 200 odd activities has 5 full heists with 4+ hesit setup stages each which all require practice and have elite challenges and whatnot, there is an insane amount of content in the game.

This looks like cosmetics online, is that right? I'd really love for them to do some more heists and large scale missions for coop play, they're absolutely awesome to play, there's already an insane amount of stuff to pimp out already.

Yeah, this one is probably all cosmetic (at least 1 new gun). There is another part of this update slated for the summer sometime that will hopefully add more missions, and ideally mansions with 20 car garages. R* has pretty much said that more heists are unlikely at this point but they have other stuff planned. Who knows what it is. There is online buzz about a Casino with missions. I think that'd be cool, Oceans 11 style.

Unless you have a stable, dedicated team, and can do the elite challenges every time, contact missions are more efficient than heists for making money. Heists are worth doing once for the one-off bonuses, or for fun, i guess, if you really, really like them.

Not kidding. I took my time, goofed off a ton, and even replayed several of the missions in different ways to see how they turned out and still only had 32 hours on the single player. Heck, I even did all the side missions except collecting the UFO parts and paper pieces.

Online is a total bust for me, its just not my cup of tea. The racing gets old really quick, robberies are boring, and most death matches were time spent in a lobby waiting. I had fun playing survival for about 20 minutes before it became repetitive a snooze fest. I simply have no desire to buy or mod stuff, I would much rather spend my time battling other real players. So I'll stick with a good multiplayer FPS where I can join a server and kill to my hearts content with being labeled as having an unstable mental state. LOL

I find some of the side missions doesn't do anything for you. Or some of the side activities such as strip clubs, and the prostitutes, or even driving people home. They give you minimal money. Feels like doing something for nothing, or just really not rewarding in that sense... But this is all single player. It feels like the single player is pretty tedious to get through so far... I find myself bored quite often and I just don't want to drive all the way across town to go somewhere...
I felt the same. Only half, or perhaps two thirds of the main story missions were actually meaningful and fun to play. Anytime I could take a cab and instantly get where I needed to be, I did so.

I notice a trend, people who dont like the game saying there is "nothing to do" not sure wtf you guys are talking about... i mean is HEists, Jobs, Deathmatches, Racing etc not something to do?

In Project Cars or Assetto Corsa all you can do is race, guess you must think those games have no content

In Battlefield 4 or any other FPS all you can do is deathmatch and variants of the sort, guess you think those games have no content

Multiplayer rubbish that was the result of sacrificing single player. Is GTA CoD now? Multiplayer is the focus? Throwaway single player campaign.

EDIT: This isn't about other games. Hate racing games and wouldn't play them if you game me a $1000 and the game for free.

Finally got the game to play on the rig in my sig. Took 2+ hours to install off DVDs, longer than setting up a fresh Install of Windows.:eek:

The 5870 gets decent FPS, occasionally below 40, usually 50+, not fantastic, but very playable. The real problem is having only 1GB of Memory. I have to play in DX10 and all the eyecandy turned off just to get the game to run at 1080p. The worst part of that is the draw distance is at minimum setting, any attempt to increase it exceeds the cards Memory(there's <5k available with minimal settings at 1080p). How the game engine deals with these settings is to blotch out all things at a certain distance and certain objects, like cars and trees at fairly near distances. Driving fast has the extra challenge that cars only 2ish seconds ahead are often faint milky boxes that suddenly become cars. Gonna have to try 720p I suppose, never tried that before on this monitor, but at least it would allow me to improve things.

In the next 1-2 months I'll be retiring this card anyway, so I'll survive regardless. :D

You are somewhat right, I suppose nothing fun to do would be a better description. I didnt really have any great expectations for the multiplayer since all the previous GTA's sucked at it, but I was really disappointed in the single player. I was able to get at least 80 hours of play out of most of the earlier GTA's but nowhere near that in this one.

If you could simply enter a GTA deathmatch server like a BF4 server, then yes I would be more satisfied. Just getting into one is a PITA and finding one without a hacker is impossible! It feels like Rockstar tried too hard to do too much and came up short all around. Im glad some of you like it but Im about ready to uninstall, sucks I cant resale it.

Another issue I have is the Nvidia SLI driver for GTA doesnt play well with BF4, sucks to have to revert drivers to change games. The latest driver release didnt help either, WTF Nvidia???

5870 should easily manhandle 720p.My cousins gtx650 with 1gb plays it quite well at 1366x768 on low.Plays miles smoother then my 970 does with all ultra at 1080p lol.Went as far as to say it still looks better then the PS3 version and he is usually a diehard PS3 fanboy lol.

That's what I suspect. The GPU seems up to the task, but 1gb is just too little for 1080p in this game.

Edit: After an hour or so of fiddling around with things I figured out that my blotches were just old Video Drivers(almost a year old). At 720p I am able to run DX11, FSAA, and all other settings On(even in Advanced), except the Distance Detail slider is set to the Left(I still may play with this, found the setting to allow >Vidcard Memory limit, tried it and exceeded by 200MB or so and Performance decreased 30%ish, but was still playable). The new Drivers not only fixed graphic issues, it improved performance by 20%+ish. Even with FSAA Aliasing is very noticeable, maybe I'll try MSAA, but I suspect that'll be too taxing.

That said, I could probably go back to 1080p and disable FXAA and run DX10 and might have a better result

Would be interesting to see if you could actually play without issues at 1080p.I would think memory usage would exceed the 1gb considering how close to 1gb it's at just at 768p on all low.

If exceeding doesn't bring any issues or stutter and it plays well enough st 1080p,i would run with that over anything else.

depending on the card you can brute force some stuff and ignore via setting. On my gtx 580 it had enough grunt to do a lot of the settings and with regular grass and water was able to use ultra settings on alot of stuff. Now my 6950 I was able to use higher res and FXAA but had to turn down a bunch of other stuff though its much smoother than the 580.

Try ignoring and see what happens. I think this game plays well on older cards. There is a texture compression hack but it gets you banned from online so only use it on single player though I cant vouch for it and have no idea if it has malware just passing the info.

Recent update to afterburner stopped the random crashes I was getting in GTA5. So weird that AB was the culprit or more accurately how it interacted with the drivers.

Some useful tricks.

If your the pilot of the plane in the Prison break finale just follow the first plane you see and stick in its rear. It flys around like a noob and doesnt do any crazy manuevers allowing the heli pilot to lock on from range to targets in the prison helping the team on the ground instead of the plane.

When the ground team signals they are close to exit head back to prison in the plane since the plane will leave as soon as Rashkovski gets in the truck.

Now if your the driver of the truck dont get near the field TILL THE PLANE LANDS so you dont attract the popo.

Make loops of the hill to the south of the strip since they cant follow you there.

Good heli pilot is needed.

When doing some missions stay in your Kuruma and pick off most of the baddies before getting out.

SO many noobs run in like Leeroy Jenkins on easy stuff.....

Take time to explain the heists before you start them. Even if you team says they know what to do they might not know some of the tricks flying the heli around the yachts to draw fire from the players on the ground.

Its amazing how NPCs ignore ground stuff when someone is flying around above.

BTW the first time Danger Zone played after getting the off the carrier and shooting down the planes was and will probably stay in my top 10 moments in gaming ever. I was cheesed to no end!

I think compared to far cry (4 was the last one i played) everything you did either benefited you. Gave you signature weapons, upped your health/experience points, etc. It's far more rewarding and you're not doing something for nothing. Killing animals, etc. It has more of a RPG element in that sense, where you're actually getting better. I thought FC4 was handled much better, but their multiplayer could've been better with their coop mode. (i.e. let you play the campaign missions with your friend! I believe Valley of the Yeti's accomplished this)

I compare it to far cry because it's essential an open world also.

What was the max amount of money some of you scored in the Lester Jewel Heist?

I broken into all 20 display cases and got all of the jewelry. I hired the crappiest hacker, driver, and gunman to save money. The crappy gunman crashed his bike and dropped his loot on the freeway but I picked it back up. I only managed to get $4.3 million total.

Thats about right. You dont get much on that heist. In fact, you only get the big bucks on the last heist.

I even replayed it several of times to make sure I didn't miss anything because some GTA guides say I should get $4.9 million

FC4 was a great game, really fun in coop. But it lacked things to do beyond the single player. I've put over 120 hours in GTA5 already and haven't even touched single player, which is supposedly excellent. I was only able to get ~35 hours out of FC4 before it was just arena and random masks/maps left to find. FC4's longevity was dampened pretty harshly by the insanely OP endgame weapons imo.

My 4.2ghz 2500k is bottlenecking this game to around 58fps sometimes while driving in the city, seems odd.

Need to do some more investigating.

I only found out because was experimenting with 60fps.

I normally run Half Vsync for a locked 30fps.

I checked my CPU in game and it's running at the full 4.2ghz so not sure what's causing it. An engine issue maybe? I/O streaming? Maybe I need an SSD.

Not enough cores/threads or a Haswell i5. You need an i7 or a hexa core to push past 60FPS, look at GameGPU. SNB is getting old.

Yeah, when I disabled Hyperthreading on my 4.4GHz 2600K, performance tanked in comparison. This game makes use of cores/threads very well, and really demands a lot.

4c/8t Sandy Bridge does well, especially when overclocked. I imagine 4c/4t SB chips aren't handling the game so well.

As for locking to 30fps, I'd highly recommend using a frame rate limiter instead of using V-sync to achieve that. I think there is one built into the game, but I use Riva Tuner normally. Actually, right now I'm using dynamic vsync or something through RadeonPro, because anything else gives me stuttering. Perhaps you are in the same boat and thus the V-sync?

i just don't like the fact that all the content in the game doesn't do anything for your character... it's not particularly good golf game, it's not a good driving, and not even a good shooter or a sim.. it's just a little below average on everything...
