I'm curious if any BIOS settings were changed following the update and you had not set them as before.

I'm wondering if on some systems, having HPET enabled in the BIOS results in instability. I had disabled it in BIOS, and re-installed the beta AMD driver (clean install, following uninstall in safemode with DDU) after having installed over the previous driver version.

I was in a rush and didn't care about troubleshooting procedure/documentation of efforts, as I usually am with my own personal system, and turns out one of those changes resulting in resolving my game crashes.

I'll check today but its all defaults, only the serial port is disabled and MCE is enabled so I run all cores of this 5930K @ 3.7GHz. The BIOS notes improved PCI-E and DRAM compatibility. HPET is probably enabled.

On performance I think I'll use Rockstar's softest shadows and up grass to Very High. Both PCSS and CHS whack performance according to HardOCP preliminaries (and they may not even look as good). See the FPS then.

Does the game always boot up in Windowed mode for anyone else? I always have to change it back to fullscreen.

It does for me. I just hit Alt+Enter to jump to full screen.

EDIT: it's not doing it now. Perhaps the latest patch fixed this.

yeah honestly was really disappointed when I couldn't engage in stuff with random businesses with gta-4. what good is ordering a burger at a restaurant?

I'll have a number niiine
A number nine laaarge
two number fives

But seriously 56 hours into this game and I've still not completed it yet, doing various side missions and whatnot, had this week of work to really cain it and there's just so much single player content, I'm amazed really. Some of the heists are bloody good although I do feel like the payouts so far have been really crummy, making more than a few hundred k is hard, even the property payouts are tiny.

It seems like since the patch the other day I'm now crashing with a GFX INIT error pretty regularly although it can be 4-5 hours of gameplay before the crash. Seems to be killing my video card driver or something because after it happens I will get it on start up until I reboot my PC.

Does anyone know how to restart the video card driver easily without rebooting, I have some work going on with my gaming rig that means I can't reboot for a while which means I can't play for another 24 hours :/

The pirated version does that, yes. ;-)

I'll be honest, I did pirate it at first to see how it ran and played on keyboard+mouse. I liked it so i uninstalled it and wiped its files, then bought it via Steam.

The pirated one didn't do that. The pirated one also never crashed on me, the Steam version has quite a bit.

I find the tasks associated with getting ready for heists tedious and boring so far. I want more rampaging missions!!! :D

So experimented with getting rid of Vysnc and seeing how far I could push settings - all base settings are maxed Very High/Ultra with the exception of Grass at Very High. FXAA only. Advanced Graphics sliders are at 60% and High Definition when flying is on. Ran out of VRAM so high resolution shadows are off. Result is 80-90FPS in Los Santos, 55 FPS or so driving outside of the city and dips to 30/40FPS in some grassy areas (not all). Only underwater tanks to 25FPS (for some reason).

No crashes except during the Blitz heist which is well documented - you need to delete your config settings to get past it for some reason.

Except in all those games where they don't. Picture the next Ubisoft game and run away screaming . . . . . . never mind that getting a single GPU working properly is a challenge for devs in AAA titles . . . . . :awe:

I expected some amazing 200+ FPS numbers (hey, it's four fricking TITAN X!), sort of disappointed from what I saw in the video, TBH.

Quad GPU scaling is fairly meh from what I have seen and remember AA is being used Afaik. I was expecting higher but not 200fps high.
