I think it was more for the driving tutorial mission. Driving seems to be much better outside that one instance.

The graphics are amazing for an open world console game. The level of detail surpasses anything I've experienced so far. Wonder how much better this would be on a PC or next gen console.
 
Yeah the camera only focuses in the first driving mission. I notice cars handle better in this game but they seem kind of laggy and hard to handle. Also, characters walk kind of slow too.

The game is great. I did the first four missions and played around with chop too. The missions are really fun.
 
Is the map as huge as they said it was? (They said it would be GTA4 + RDR + San Andreas sized but personally I would be satisfied with just GTA4 + RDR sized map)

It's pretty big I was trying to fins a heli to fly around but my controller died. Anyone else find the text really hard to read ? It's really small, for example emails and text? I have to get closer to the tv if I'm sitting on the couch.

Yes and it's not like I'm playing on a small TV. I know I missed a lot of the tutorial stuff because I couldn't make out the button.
 
Only 2 complaints, and I'm not sure they can even be classified as complaints:
1 - it's not on PC (but still looks amazing for the hardware it's running on!)
2 - cheats aren't saved and are button based. I loved the cell phone based cheats of IV due to hating the inputting of cheats in III/VC. Hopefully this may change in the future. They won't be needed anyway until I'm done playing the game straight.

My buddy has a 42 inch and he said he could see it fine. Maybe he didn't have it on full 1080p. I have a 32 inch at 1080p and it was really hard playing while trying to pay attention to the text that tells you what you can do as you discover new things.

There's a personal jet at the airport you can hijack rather easily. Or if you want to get adventurous you can try to steal the fighter jet off the military base, that one has a mini gun and missiles. I've only gotten close once had the jet about 15 feet off the ground (they take off really quickly) and was shot down by a tank.

Also, you have to switch between the characters if you want to beat the main story line,
I feel like michael is the main character even though you don't start out using him right away.
 
Michaels missions are by far my favorite so far. I notice texture pop if I'm looking for it but if I'm playing the game I barely ever notice it. I think the cars are way better this game then last
 
From the 3-4 hours I've played so far, all I can say is: WOW. This is impressive. How is this possible on an 8 year old console?

where is the jet at the airport? I got the F16 look alike out over the water but they blew me up quickly after that lol.

I was watching some game play on twitch and the guy went to the strip club. Thankfully, strippers are topless in this one! That always annoyed me. Mostly, how nudity is so frowned upon, but senseless killing of anyone is perfectly okay!
 
lol...i do suggest you go to the question marks at every opportunity. Some classic lines of dialog from the crazy people.

I find the question marks but no one there. Are you suppose to press something ?

I'm only 7% complete anyway and yeah it looks like you have to play as Michael to advance once you do franklin's missions. I ended up spending a half hour towing cars for that cracked out girl. Wish I could play more but gotta go to work tomm.
 
I put 6 hours into it today and it was a blast. I just did Trevor's mission, all I can say is wow that guy is something else. I need to go find that fighter jet tomorrow

When you see a ? mark you are near someone who you can begin an interaction with. You'll have to walk around a bit sometimes.

I spent about 5 hours learning the map, exploring a bit. Seeing what you can do (fighting random people and such). It's strange that guys in suits don't drop money but a bum under the bridge dropped $20 heh.
 
I thought the paparazzi mission was one of them. Another time I found a ? Near some side street. Walked around a bit and figured it was the bookers so I picked them up. When I realized that wasn't it, I took their money. I spent all michael's money investing in stocks and all Franklin's money at the strip club.
 
I agree that the text is too small. I can't tell if it is R1, R2 or R3. It's just a black blob with a number in it. I am on a 46", 1 year old Vizio LCD.

The game looks amazing for PS3. This console is ancient and it looks better than GTA4 on PC with max settings. (minus the non-antialiasing)

I am used to playing on a PC and since I am sitting on the couch, I feel I am missing stuff. I might get an HDMI/DVI adapter so I can play on my computer LCD and sit closer.

The game is classic GTA so far. The visuals are amazing. I particularly liked the lighting effects of the shotgun flashlight on that one mission.

I am still getting used to the analog sticks. I feel like my thumbs have no precision. I went to the shooting gallery to practice. With a keyboard and mouse, I would have gotten Gold medals on all of the events, first try. On analog sticks, I was lucky to get silver and couldn't even get bronze on the hardest ones.

Yeah it doesn't have a mission start circle on the ground, just have to walk over to the right place I guess. Still this game is easily the most fun I have had in a long time. I haven't even progressed far in the story yet due to my exploration and such.

One thing I do wish rockstar would work on is hand yo hand combat. I know you aren't supposed to be a martial arts or mma expert but the unarmed combat is still as wonky as ever.

Also just an FYI if you get arrested you lose your ammo and any weapons you did not buy from ammunation. If you just choose death, you keep everything. This happened to me last night. Lost a shotgun I took from a police car but kept my fully upgraded AK.

Tonight I am going to settle into the story missions. Gonna pretty much try to do every mission there is. I really can't wait to see the mini games later on in the game.

There is a video comparison online. Google it.
They look identical.

Reviewers all got Xbox versions, but PS3 is the main system for development... so they are probably identical. Think about online play with friends. What do they have?

Online will be the same, game wise.
