GT5 doesn't render all the dirt on the ground or foliage that good. You can see how much more detailed that is compared to GT5 . GT5 focuses more on the car and certain track aspects that they know people would notice the most and have low rez textures on other cars you race against and the crowd and the background.

I'm not saying GT5 is a bad looking game cus it definitely isn't and sometimes it looks REALLY damn good but it's just not comparable to a modern PC. I don't know why people still try to compare console's to PC's. The only time the graphics are comparable are when the console first comes out as it's graphics are on-par to PC.

Here's a few Dirt 2 screenshots I captured as well. Unfortunately, Flickr compresses them a lot so I can't show you the original 1680x1050 images in all their beauty. They're too big to host myself, so...

I'd really like to try F1 2010 but I can't really spend the money. I'll buy it eventually when it goes on sale.

Yeah, mine were in DX11, you can't really say what looks better. The whole image is sharper and the effects are more refined so to speak. Shadows are also much better.

Yeah, DX11 with maxed out settings. I don't really know what exactly DX11 does for the game... ;) but like Skurge said, it probably involves post-processing effects and shadows. I don't know how much tessellation it uses, if at all.

Oh, and also: Dirt 2 and F1 (both Codemasters games) are cross-platform (PC, 360, and PS3). Gran Turismo and Forza, on the other hand, are console exclusives; GT is Playstation-only and Forza is Xbox-only. Just thought I'd clear that up.

I still have yet to play GT5 or Dirt 2 DX11. I'm tempted to get a GTX570 in the near future or something heh. I love the blistering fast frame rates in Dirt 2, not terribly hard to run(in DX9 at least).

I've played Dirt 2 in DX10 and DX11 and I didn't see much graphical difference, other than the DX11 card got better framerates because it's faster.

Perhaps if I paused the screen or took screenshots and pixel peeped I would see the difference, but wizzing by at 100+mph it's hard to notice any difference for me.

Old card (DX10): Geforce 9800 GTX
New Card (DX11): Radeon 5850.

Then again I didn't compare them side by side either.

i think GT5 has more content. Kart racing is a blast. i prefer some variety over graphics.
iRacing is far more crisper looking, but the actual textures are just as flat, same low poly trees, flat grass..etc. Mainly i just hate the idea of paying $75 for just 1 year as apposed to $60 for life.

Actually, believe it or not, Dirt 2 does not support DX10. Depending on your settings it either runs in DX11 or DX9, but not DX10. (Strange I know)

After re-testing Dirt2, I realized I forgot about a really good looking game.

Xpand Rally. I remember when I first played it and its various video modes during replay, I was shocked at how amazing it actually looked. and the physics was quite good iirc.

Now, where did I put that game -_-;..

Actually, it less noticeable in still shots. Its things like the way the sun reflects off the cars is not really overdone like in DX9, the shadows are much smoother. In the night track, the game was a bit blurry cause the Post processing was at half the resolution of the game in DX9, its much crisper and and more refined I would say. Also, a new option is unlocked in the graphics menu when you have a DX11 card.

I know right, I can hate having to constantly pay for a game to play it. I will agree that GT4 has more content, but really, some of it is just filler. Who really wants to drive a Yaris or a midget

It great that they have all those cars I would like to drive a lot of them, but only maybe 300 at most. The fact that they have what was that? 20 Nissan skylines and not a single Porsche is bizarre. Forza had Porsche's so EA cant have an exclusive licensee to them.

iRacing is based on the NR2003 engine. It has prettied up a bit but it's still older tech. I think it's mainly so that it runs better on moderate systems.

As far as graphics go, I find that Grid on PC looks better than Forza or GT5 on consoles. I won't claim its a better game, as it's more arcade racer than sim and thus has less content overall, but from a purely graphics standpoint I think it blows both games out of the water when at equal resolutions. I think GT5 should be ported to PC. As of now it's chained to a machine that incapable of unlocking its full potential.

I fell in love with GRID when I played it. I usually am more willing to play arcade racers than sims since I think they're more fun. I don't really care too much if my games are really unrealistic since they're fantasy anyway.

I just want a racer on PC that has the attention to detail and diversity of Forza or GT series. Is that too much to ask? :(

Actually, yes.
Racers along with shooters have been making much more money on the consoles because people there are willing to pay more for less. There isnt nearly as much incentive to make quality games for the computer anymore. We pretty much get crappy ports of mediocre games. Thats why I loved TDU so much cuz even though its not realistic it is most definitely assloads of fun. Its also the reason I am looking forward to TDU 2 in January.

Nail on the head, thats exactly what a recent article in Gamepro (i think) doing an interview with some developer..sorry can't recall precise details but he basically said the same things, how the PC market has the potential, but finding it is risky unlike console where its pretty much guaranteed to at least make your money back if not tons more.

Steam, Popcap, WOW...great success stories, but to be one of them is pretty much a fluke or stroke of pure luck. I wouldnt invest $20 million of my money in some game for the PC...would you?

Lets see, at 40 bucks a pop I'd have to sell half a million just to break even. Unless I'm selling an already known franchise, no way Jose.
