Not only that, the GT series had a nice progression to it. You started off with a really crappy car and built your way up slowly, but surely. It really felt like an accomplishment when you could finally pay for stage 3 turbo on whatever car you were using at the time. Forza starts out with a crappy car, but you never feel like you have save credits to buy a part. Not only that, you were constantly thrown new cars at you... I dunno, it's just not as fun as the older GTs.
What makes the GT series superior to say the Forza series? To me, they seem like the same game, yet GT seems to be revered. Is it because it was first, or are there actual differences to look forward to ?
(admittedly, racing sims are not my thing, I only play them casually).
Forza 8 or GT5. Forza 8 or GT5. Man! Difficult decisions.
you gotta be shitting me
I have to agree that I don't like how easy it is to progress in games like Forza...I really like the feeling of accomplishment that comes with saving for these items.
But with our credit-card crazed society, the developers are probably thinking people don't have the attention span anymore to wait to get the upgrade...its all about now, now, now...
It would be cool if they had an "old-school" mode that required more effort.

I'd like to condemn this to the vapourware bin with the other three, but knowing how slowly Polyphony works I can't. It took them only five years to get Gran Turismo Mobile out. Still, we know the core work of GT5 has been done, as per the Prologue. So the game engine is there and done. The only thing left I think would be modelling and minor tweaks. Do they have one guy doing that or something?

Uh oh. In an interview with Spanish website Canarias Al Dia, CEO of Sony Entertainment Portugal James Armstrong had some disconcerting words for Gran Turismo fans. Via Google translation (user subsonic offers another, human translation):
"We believe that launching the product this fall, before Christmas, but not yet decided. I do not rule that uses the MC but I doubt it. GT 5′ is a great hope for Sony, a very important game for the company, which generates much income. We would have wanted him out before but we think the priority we are giving it our best. Im very confident in this game that we launch this year and help us consolidate PS3 as the console that is large."
This actually isnt the first time weve heard from Mr. Armstrong. Back in November of 2008, he told a Spanish financial newspaper that GT5 would arrive at Christmas [2009] a date which was both privately disclosed and publicly confirmed several times throughout last year before Yamauchi set the now-postponed Japanese release date for March of 2010. Nevertheless, his reputation unfortunately precedes him, making his comments all the more believable. For the rest of us, the release date drama continues
Thanks to Freeman_Cruz for digging this up!
why so serious?
I honestly wouldnt be surprised if they pushed the release date to xmas.
so much for "we can release gt5 whenever we want"
Once again... this is GT we're talking about. Tons of delays have plagued each release. Hell, it could've been delayed to march 2012 and I wouldn't have been surprised.
Hopefully it'll be damn near perfect.
Tons of delays? An over 7 year gap wouldn't suprise you? Sure, dude.
This is the longest delay between major releases for North America. The next largest was the 3 year, 7 month gap between GT3 and GT4. In 18 days, we will hit the 5 year mark since GT4's release. That's ridiculous.
