So which one comes out first, do you think?

Gran Turismo 5
Half Life 2: Episode 3
Black Mesa Source
Duke Nukem Forever

Not only that, the GT series had a nice progression to it. You started off with a really crappy car and built your way up slowly, but surely. It really felt like an accomplishment when you could finally pay for stage 3 turbo on whatever car you were using at the time. Forza starts out with a crappy car, but you never feel like you have save credits to buy a part. Not only that, you were constantly thrown new cars at you... I dunno, it's just not as fun as the older GTs.

I have to agree that I don't like how easy it is to progress in games like Forza...I really like the feeling of accomplishment that comes with saving for these items.

But with our credit-card crazed society, the developers are probably thinking people don't have the attention span anymore to wait to get the upgrade...its all about now, now, now...

It would be cool if they had an "old-school" mode that required more effort.

What makes the GT series superior to say the Forza series? To me, they seem like the same game, yet GT seems to be revered. Is it because it was first, or are there actual differences to look forward to ?

(admittedly, racing sims are not my thing, I only play them casually).

The GT series started much earlier (GT1 was released in 1998) and had many releases before the first Forza game came out (GT4 came out in February 2005, Forza 1 came out in May 2005). Also, the GT series' success can partially be attributed to the huge popularity of the PS1 and PS2 compared with the original Xbox.

Or maybe they figured they shouldn't make u play a game you payed 60 dollars for 100 hrs to get a good car. Since people like me will buy the game but will never play it more than a couple hours a month. So yeah it isn't about now rather it is about sooner that later.

I feel the same way too.

One thing I do in Forza to compensate is to finish the competition in a linear order so you progress through the different classes of cars. I don't stay 100% true to it, but it helps.

I'd like to condemn this to the vapourware bin with the other three, but knowing how slowly Polyphony works I can't. It took them only five years to get Gran Turismo Mobile out. Still, we know the core work of GT5 has been done, as per the Prologue. So the game engine is there and done. The only thing left I think would be modelling and minor tweaks. Do they have one guy doing that or something?

And it looks and plays like garbage. It's one of my VG purchases that I regret.

if forza 3 is like that everyone in the public room will be running S5 because they won't be able to afford anything else. now THAT is boring.

GT5 delayed again... again.

http://www.gtplanet.net/sony-exec-gran-turismo-5-launching-this-fall/

Uh oh. In an interview with Spanish website Canarias Al Dia, CEO of Sony Entertainment Portugal James Armstrong had some disconcerting words for Gran Turismo fans. Via Google translation (user subsonic offers another, human translation):

"We believe that launching the product this fall, before Christmas, but not yet decided. I do not rule that uses the MC but I doubt it. ‘GT 5′ is a great hope for Sony, a very important game for the company, which generates much income. We would have wanted him out before but we think the priority we are giving it our best. I’m very confident in this game that we launch this year and help us consolidate PS3 as the console that is large."

This actually isn’t the first time we’ve heard from Mr. Armstrong. Back in November of 2008, he told a Spanish financial newspaper that GT5 would “arrive at Christmas [2009]” – a date which was both privately disclosed and publicly confirmed several times throughout last year before Yamauchi set the now-postponed Japanese release date for March of 2010. Nevertheless, his reputation unfortunately precedes him, making his comments all the more believable. For the rest of us, the release date drama continues…

Thanks to Freeman_Cruz for digging this up!

Once again... this is GT we're talking about. Tons of delays have plagued each release. Hell, it could've been delayed to march 2012 and I wouldn't have been surprised.

Hopefully it'll be damn near perfect.

I officially don't give a damn anymore. This is freaking ridiculous, at this point it is going to be delayed until the PS4.

Tons of delays? An over 7 year gap wouldn't suprise you? Sure, dude.

This is the longest delay between major releases for North America. The next largest was the 3 year, 7 month gap between GT3 and GT4. In 18 days, we will hit the 5 year mark since GT4's release. That's ridiculous.

No it doesn't surprise me.

I remember waiting for GT2. They had an initial date set, then they delayed it a few times. Same thing happened for GT3, and GT4. And it's happening with GT5.

You also have to realize that this is their first "current-gen" engine that they're working on. It's a lot more complex to develop than the previous GT games.

My issue isn't that it's taking a long time, it's that Polyphony feels the need to put a date out there, and then they can't even come close to bringing it out at that time. I hate that. But am I surprised? Given their history? Hell no.
