I couldn't finish the damn race in an M5 because my tires got really worn out by the 3rd lap.

Did i see 360?!?!
I was wondering the same thing, looked like 360 to me. However, I must say that the only thing that impressed was his knowledge of the 13-mile track. Otherwise, if you watch his throttle/brake meters, he has no throttle control at all. Now, I'm not sure if proper throttle control would net him a faster time, but I'd like to think so :). Also, he takes almost all curves at full throttle, so I'm sure I could do similar in the same car. The only thing that looked hard to do was to spin out of the curves.

That sounded incredibly like an armchair expert.
Well, I'm certainly no race-car expert or have any vast knowledge about it. Plus, it's not like I tried to spew all kinds of facts.

My point was that at first, it looked incredibly cool him going around that track that fast, but after a couple of minutes, you notice that he's not really doing anything special. The formula car was sticking to the road no matter what he did, and he was basically full throttle the whole time, so I'm sure I could do around the same once I had his knowledge of the track.

Now, if he was to hop into some of the super license tests, and best the Gold times by a couple of seconds or more, THEN I'd be impressed.

I agree with blurred. Its in a F1 car, 5 min isn't that great. Beating the Gold license times by a second in itself is a much more greater feat. 3 shy of all golds in B license, and 3 shy in the A license. Its an awesome game with the wheel by the way.

I was able to do it in 7 something with an Audi concept car with like 900hp.

5 is awesome though
that course can be frustrating!

I use the older wheel, Driving force, and its friggan awesome! You can probably find one cheap now.

Also, I noticed this game make this wheel totally friggan awesome!! With GT3, it was a bit awkward cause it was easy to spin out when you over correct a bit. Cornering and breaking is a lot more accurate with GT4 then GT3 with the wheel IMO.

But this is soo accurate, I don't think i can go back to the controller. That long straight in Nurburgring looks easy, but if I took my hands off the wheel I'd go flying, cause its weaving left to right like im running over a thousand rocks! This game is AMAZING with the wheel, you gotta get one. :D

That's what I was looking at as well, and I figured, he could prolly pull a 4:30 on the track if he got the speeds right, and was touching the corners of the track while cornering. Basically, he's using his engine to brake, so anyone that asked whether he could do that in real life: he would probably blow the engine of any car that he is given. Also, I did notice that he had some wheelspin in some of the corners, so if he would've got the traction right, then he would have also got a faster time.

Engine braking doesn't "blow your engine."

it will if you're constantly engine braking high in the red zone

I had this car IRL. Not surprised to see it's last.

No, it won't. What the hell is the red zone? An engine is designed to make power. When you aren't making power, it doesn't see anywhere near the stress levels.

Do you people even know what engine braking is?

Video looks cool :)

I'll have a bash when I get the game after I finish Uni in 3 months. He does not hit every corner perfectly but dam it takes skill to do it.

Lets see someone post up a video or a screen shot of what time they got :)

I have an in-car vid (27.6MB) of a JDM 04 Impreza WRX STi doing the 20.8km loop in 8:06:59 if anyone's interested in hosting it. Not nearly as fast as that M3 GTR though - that one is a beast.

Not sure if this site was posted already or not - some more lap times here.
