Ati will not be care too much about GT300 which is maybe 20% faster than 5870 3 months later. By then, ati has the 5870x2. It is more important to focus on the mid-range card like 5850 where they make the most profit, and sell the most qty.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I could swear this has happened before. ATI releases a new product and nvidia follows with a late launch of a faster product which is more expensive. Then ATI releases a newer part and an x2 which basically bring the high end parts within range of each other, while ATI owns the $150 - $200 market for the near future.

The only thing I'm concerned with is what will be the chip/card to have come early next year in the $150 - $200 range since my 22" Samsung "only" runs at 1680x1050 anyway. I have the feeling the 5850 or 5870 will be that card, but nvidia should feel free to surprise me.

I am not sure if we are going to see $150-$200 DX11 NV part in at least 8-9 months.
This market will belong to AMD.

The thread topic seems wrong in the light of the today's paper launch. :)

 Wha??? This is the OCguy we all love and ignore right?

Yes, very bad posts.

Two more personal attacks because I make a comment about personal attacks? A younger me would have taken the bait, but not now.

Stay classy.

I was just comenting on the irony of you complaining about people derailing threads when you post things like

Tough times for nvidia.

Anyway, if they can get cards out by Xmas that outperform 5XXX, I dont see them having a problem retaining a substantial marketshare lead.

If the cards do not outperform 5XXX, or outperform by a 5% average and cost ~$100 more, they could be in trouble.

So how does first card before the end of year contradict Kyle? He specifically mentions shelves in stores.

Are you accusing me of trying to derail the thread?

I think Kyle is very right, and so does Anand:

while Fermi currently exists on paper, it's not a product yet. Fermi is late. Clock speeds, configurations and price points have yet to be finalized. NVIDIA just recently got working chips back and it's going to be at least two months before I see the first samples. Widespread availability won't be until at least Q1 2010.

It's a wait and see.

Exactly , If you go back a few threads in the Video section you will see I repeatedly said that this would occur, It has , This thread title Alone says it all . But I would add a bit more to what was learned today .

NV said they had working silly. But failed to show it ,Unless I missed something . Heres What I think . I said it befor I'll say it again , I don't believe NV has working silly that can compete.

I think NV will struggle to get true DX10.1 , Well see if there cards can do 10.1 the full spec. (Yes I know its a DX11 card , But ATI was ready for DX11 1 year ago. Small changes is all.)

I think NV has the same problem ATI had with the R520. I think NV is going to struggle getting this chip to work anywhere near its spics.

Thats what I think . Same as this topic being pure BS. Thats what I think .

Should I apologize now? Or wait until the cards launch? You're call.

Time warps are off the hook today. Not only that, but the post I quoted from ronnn just dissappeared. Weird.

*coughs*

I've been saying the same for a couple of weeks now, the Q1 delay has been known through the OEM channels for a while now.

Regardless the big issue will be price point. This massive die is going to cost more than a few nice and shiny pennies and it won't be easy to compete on price if current speculation on the chip holds true.

If NV had something real they would show a quick demo.
The chip is huge and it seems TSMC has some trouble with it. Let's hope it's going to be Q1 and not later.

GT300 - Black Friday/November 2009?

Black Friday release would be the normal release cycle for nvidia...but I don't think either release have dealt with the manufacturing problems the 40nm process has.

You would need to go back further than one instance to prove a "norm". If they have released previous cycles in November, that would... not make your case -stronger-, it would just mean you have a case to begin with, which you don't just yet. =)
