Gruesome weekend for Chicago

(CNN)When a city has seven killings in two days, including the death of a 7-year-old boy, something is systemically wrong.

That's what Chicago's police chief said after a spate of bloodshed that tormented the city over the weekend.

"We need to repair a broken system," Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy told reporters Sunday. "Criminals don't feel the repercussions of the justice system."

fucking chicago. really? fuck people stop.

IF these murders had happened outside of chicago? this would be nation news. There would be riots. there would be marching.

why aren't people pissed at this. where are the leaders of chicago?

wow another 40 people injured from bullet wounds? wtf?

poor kid, they should just put his father to death.

Millions live there.
I'm sure they are replaced at an even faster rate.

Also, Chicago seems like a good place to start an indoors shooting range. The motto will be "When It's time to bust a cap, make your shots count"

This year's statistics may sound staggering, but compared with last year, the number of violent incidents is actually down. For the same period in 2014, there were 64 shootings, 69 nonfatal victims in those incidents and 15 slayings.

I guess "Chicago getting better" doesn't have the same link bait value as "Gruesome weekend for Chicago leaves city, police chief reeling". CNN is garbage.

One of the big reasons is that Chicago is a huge city. Their overall homicide rate is considerably below lots of other cities in the US, but it's not as much lower as cities like NYC.

In 2013 (most recent year available) Chicago had a homicide rate of 15 per 100,000. Contrast that to places like Detroit, which had 45/100k, New Orleans, (41/100k), or even places like Birmingham, which had 30/100k.

If anything, Chicago's murder rate gets too much press due to the absolute numbers. Why talk about Chicago when other cities have rates that are 200-300% higher?

Surely more gun control is needed! A few more laws restricting the rights of law abiding citizens will do the trick.

</idiot liberal>

The problem is obviously with those wielding the guns, and a system in Chicago that has helped create so many people so willing to commit violent crimes.

LOL for a long time it was damn near impossible to get a gun legally in Chicago.

I'm just amazed when i read stuff like this. Where is the Black leaders (sadly the shootings are in a black area) like jessy? i think this is where they need to be leading marches and such.

Also, Chicago seems like a good place to start an indoors shooting range. The motto will be "When It's time to bust a cap, make your shots count"

ugh. i feel slightly bad i laughed. 😳

I think we need to get to the heart of the matter. We must find out what symbols were on the murderers clothes and other belongings, then remove them from existence.

This happens every 4th of july also. Story from Pew last year on the exact same thing:

This year's weekend of the 4th was actually a decline in deaths (10 vs 16) from last year and fewer shootings also. Though that won't generate the clicks news orgs want to see.

... Where is the Black leaders (sadly the shootings are in a black area) like jessy? i think this is where they need to be leading marches and such... /QUOTE]
“The city’s North Side and much of the Northwest Side had murder rates of 3.3 per 100,000 people between 2008 and 2011, but the annual murder rates on the South Side were 40 per 100,000,” he says.

To illustrate his findings, Hertz converted the murder statistics into a set of color-coded maps and charts. The areas in darkest green saw the greatest decline in murder rates, and those in red experienced dramatic increases.
In Chicago, black on black crime is a highly localized problem. (see image above.)

Its a problem that interests neither the media nor their appointed 'black leaders' Jessie Jackson, Al Sharpton et al. Understandable, since neither group can make money from black on black crime.

Since that crime is highly localized, don't go into certain areas and you won't be involved... Locals that don't live in the crime ridden areas have an incentive to avoid rather than solve the problem.

City government with their hands full with other (financial) problems seems to have taken a containment approach. That is, you can do whatever you want, as long as you do it in your own neighborhood...

Social Justice Warrior is too busy demonstrating their moral superiority to small southern states to bother...

Status quo reigns...

This.

But it still won't matter. Based on how society tolerates rap music but can't tolerate a flag its clear it really has nothing to do with being offensive and divisive. I'm guessing there was even some of that rap music playing in the background at the time many of the victims died. Sad really.

Wut.

Gf wanted to go to Chicago this past weekend for July 4th family stuff. (we live in St. Louis).

I said no, and stayed home.

so the conclusion is - ban rap music?

Gotta love P&N, it truly is a forge of original political ideas.

The per capita murder rate in St. Louis is 40, Chicago is 18.

When looking at the metro area, that isn't the case. St. Louis metro drops to below 10. As a whole, St. Louis is safer than Chicago. No one lives in St. Louis city is why the rate is so high. He made the right call.
