Grrrr. My HDTV has broken for the 4th time in 2 years

My Panasonic 50LC13 has had 5 separate problems and I just had the HID bulb and ballast replaced 2 months ago and it broke again. This TV has blown its bulb 4 times. Panasonic has been good about it and fixed the TV out of warranty for the past year. They told me the next time it broke, they would replace it with a new one. I'm still waiting to see what they do next.

If I were in front of you now you'd recieve a severe flogging.

I've got the 50LC14 and hope it never happens to me!

At least Panasonic is willing to replace your unit out of warranty. That's pretty much unheard of.

Well, at least they are nice enough to replace it completely. I'm surprised that they are waiting until the sixth problem though! I got an extended warranty for my HDTV at Best Buy and it will be fully replaced the third time it breaks. Only two more to go!! 😉

Yeah but if it was a Sony, I would have been stuck with a dead TV one day after the warranty expired. In defense of Panasonic, at least they have been helpful. My $3000 Sony TV was a complete loss after 18 months. I ended up trashing it bc it would have been more expensive to fix than it was worth.

I purchased a Hitachi last March and have not have a single problem. I dont' know if it was a sells tactic or if the sales person was being honest, but he stated that hitachi makes the tubes for projection TVs and that they keep the best ones for themselves.

There's a Hitatchi tube manufacturing plant in my town, and yes, they do that.

Sony does the same for their LCD screens for LCD projection screens and CMOS sensors for cameras. Its a common tactic.

I had a Quantex-branded 19" monitor that just died on me this year, after seven years of faithful service. It had a Hitachi tube.

I would wonder if it's getting clean power, or if the power supply itself was a bit off.

I have it running on a UPS. The repair place told me its a design flaw which is why they keep fixing it out of warranty. They said the ballast design was defective yet they replaced it last time and it still broke. Last time the lamp blew out but this time the bulb inside the lamp disintegrated. It looks like glass sand inside the lamp.

Quantex 😀😀😀 I was still using one of their cases until last year 😛

Correction, I'm still using it, just as my secondary machine 😉

What you need, my friend, is a Samsung DLP 🙂 I've got a 61" that's given me NO trouble, has a *gorgeous* picture and does everything I want it to absolutely perfect!

Sorry to hear that, mine has been running fine since I got it 2 years ago.

Samsungs are nice but when I got my TV they were going in the mid $3,000s. I bought mine for a steal at $2,400. I still like the TV. Hopefully, Panasonic will hook me up with a new one.

Yeah, the trick is to get the previous season models right when the new ones come out. I got my 61" for $1900 cash out the door, it's the 2004 model. Picked it up in May when the 2005's hit 🙂

Heh, my Quantex case is housing what will be my file server as soon as I upgrade my main PC's CPU and HDD 😛

There was no trick because the Samsungs out at the time were first generation DLPs. 🙂
