Yup, would suck a major one. I can't imagine me buying everything I have on DVD if they should convert those into HD or Blu-Ray. Granted that a lot of DVDs will just be enhanced, but dang it.
Quick, someone go write a software that rips and convert normal DVD files into HD or Blu-Ray contents. Profits.
Edit: Because I feel it's necessary to include this in the OP.
I understand the backwards compatibility of HD or Blu-Ray players perfectly, for the millionth time. However, a lot of movies are being reproduced in either format that are already on DVDs.
It's not a requirement that I have to purchase new DVDs of the same title to watch it, it's for the image quality enjoyment sake. Upconverting may not produce the same image quality. Is there something wrong with my OP or what I wrote subsequently? Is this really hard to understand what I'm trying to say, or saying?
I assumed that everyone would be intelligent enough to know the damn HD or Blu-Ray players are backwards compatible, that should be a given. Why do some of you insist on mentioning the obvious?
Let me rephrase this so that we're cleared about the subject. Remember your VHS collection? Yup, that went to the trash when DVDs came out. (Before some smart @ jumps in - no, DVD players are not backwards compatible with VHS tapes. There I said it). Now, most people will not replace there DVD collection with the HD version of the same. For some of us that feel as if it's a necessity, it will suck. /rant.
