pretend this is all caps because I'm pissed: I just got a call from a company that I interviewed with for a sofware sales position: no, they won't offer me a sales job, but they have a minimum-wage data entry job that I'd be perfect for . . .
I'm desperate, I would have taken sales associate or research or support, but friggin entry level no benefits?? Heck no, I can keep working my p/t jobs and not have to dress up and commute!!!
This has happened to me a lot recently. I'm female and over 50; I started working as a FORTRAN programmer back when that was state of the art, that was just the beginning; I've had a lot of different jobs since then, including owning a couple of my own businesses.
I long ago stopped looking for hardware or programming jobs, considering all the young & non-female applicants I never had a chance. And to be honest, back when I was hiring techs I probably wouldn't have hired me either, because I have more sales than tech chops, because sales is what you do when you own the company.
I think I'm going to cut my losses and "retire" from the computer racket. Either that or start up a seniors-only IT biz as revenge.
This may not sound like much of a rant to you, but it's a big deal to me.
I now return to my current temp job, ghostwriting a human resources manual for a local business. Hey, it'll keep me & my kid in Ramen for a while.
