GRR! ATI DRIVER ISSUES! HELP!

OK these ati drivers are just pissing me off...

I have a radeon 9700 pro and the drivers are giving me TONS of problems... i finally got them to run stable... but now i have a load of other problems...

i'm using catalyst 3.2 now because the AA or AF doesn't work at all on catalyst 3.4(yes i installed the correct control panel)...

now in catalyst3.2, the AA and AF works.. BUT, the IQ is HORRIBLE!! when i don't use AF, the textures are SOOO blurry.. as if i'm using LOD 1.5!!! when I use AF, the textures are sharp.. and they look nice.. but ALL of the words, menus, in game huds are blurred soo much that it's hard to see...

I think I might try the omega drivers... but any suggestions? i thought everyone said ati driver problems were a thing of the past now.. doesn't seem true for me!

Also i'd use Regcleaner to remove all ATI registry strings when removing your previous drivers.

Why do you have to use modified ATI drivers just to get your video card to work?

The blurred stuff is normal with ati's method of AF. I don't use it but rage3dtweak may help. You can tweak some of the hidden settings. See if it helps the IQ with aa and af.

so maybe it's a setting? or something... i checked quake3's settings twice.. and they are all maxed out...

so it must be a setting in the control panel..

i'm going to bed now.. i'll post a screenshot of my settings in the control panel tommorrow..

3.4s, AF and AA doesn't work at all
AA/AF does work (quite well) in 3.4. The control panel has a lot of options. To make it easy, just put the D3D and OpenGl sliders all the way to the right. That is "max quality" and will have you @ 4x AA and 16x AF. You can fine tune it for your system/tastes from there.

Q3 will not enable AA or AF on its own. There is no setting for it. You have to have the video card drivers "force the issue". This is true with ATi, nV or any other card.

You don't have too. But they have been tweaked for PQ and have overclocking utilities built in.

virtualgames0,I presume you went from Nvidia to ATI so run
Driver Cleaner 1.5 to remove all the old driver files, infact probably be good idea to remove ATi drivers as well and clean up both with Driver Cleaner then do a fresh install of the ATI drivers again.

Very last option would be fresh install of OS ,it would be interesting to see if you would get the same problem if you tried your 9700 Pro in a different PC.

yep i did a fresh install of my os when i put in my radeon card.. or i would get no functionality whatsoever! the screen would be garbled at bootup(yes i deleted old drivers), and i could hear the windows starting up sound.. but i just see a garbled screen..

i just installed catalyst 3.4 omega drivers... AA/AF doesn't work at all again..

quake 3 looks more blurry than ever..

What control panel settings are you using? What video settings in Q3?

I never mess with Omega drivers. Normal ones work fine

all opengl games are blurry as hell...

direct 3d games look fine... but AA/AF doesn't work now that i installed the cat 3.4
Unreal Tournament runs REALLY slow. runs worse than UT2003. Before with my last 9500pro that i returned, it was much faster, like it stayed at 140-160fps... now i get 10-50fps, usually in the lower 15-25fps..

C&C Generals works fine, so does morrowind.
Postal2 runs a bit jerky.. maybe it's more detailed or requires more power than UT2003.

hmm driver cleaner actually says i have nvidia wdm and nvidia stereo drivers in my system... i reinstalled windows.. so they shouldn't be in my windows system folder.. is nvidia wdm my nforce2 drivers? i have a driver just called nvidia, and nvidia wdm, also nvidia stereo...
