No, that title belongs to Scott Layden - so many big contracts, so crappy a choice of players.

New York Knicks for the last 4 years.

Traded Glen Rice for Howard Eisley and Shandon Anderson, both signed through 2007.
Paying Eisley 5.8, 6.3, 6.9, and 7.4 million dollars for the next 4 years respectively, although they can get out of the last year of the contract.
Paying Anderson 6.7, 7.3, 7.9, and 8.5 million dollars for the next 4 years.
Acquired Travis Knight in the Ewing trade - making 4.4 million next year.

Gave Allen Houston a contract that pays 15.9, 17.5, 19.1, and 20.7 million dollars for the next 4 years
For reference, this is the 10th largest contract in the NBA, and only two of the ones higher go past next season (Shaq and Mutumbo).

Basically, he's pushed the Knicks into the second highest payroll in the league (after Portland) and given them a team which only has 3-4 movable players because everyone else is so overpaid for so long.

I have to say Bernie Bickerstaff gets that one...he took a nuggets team that was decent and turned them into the perennial last place team today that exists today.

Melo should look good in a Pistons uniform next year. A reasonable consolation since their season is almost over.

Yeah, the numbers are literally insane.

Eisley and Anderson were effective contributors within the Jazz (Stockton/Malone/Sloan) scheme. Since departing, neither Eisley nor Anderson has been able to perform consistently. Both are way overpaid for what they contribute. Scott Layden thought he could duplicate the same organization in NY as he had in Utah. But until the Knicks can move the ball around better and cultivate a system, Anderson and Eisley are little more than overpaid bench/role players. Bryon Russell has also struggled since leaving Utah.

antonio daniels was actually developing into a pretty good player the last couple of years, which of course took way too long. And now I think he's out of the rotation in san antonio if he's still there....

he signed eisley and anderson because they both played here in utah for a while. his dad, frank layden, was the gm here for a lot of years and he(scott) knows both of those players well. they are good players but they aren't the calliber players to be making that kind of money.

Daniels is a free agent for the Blazers and I doubt he'll stay with their excess PGs. As for Grizzlies making terrible trades, I think even Jerry West made a terrible trade this year. He gave up Giricek and Gooden for Mike Miller and some gimp. Mike Miller has a bad back and Giricek and Gooden have a lot of potential. Bryant Reeves was a flop and so was Otis Thorpe.

Speaking of the Raptors, did you notice Prince Vince trying to cover a grin when the Raptors didn't get the #1 pick? He knew that he'd be out the door as soon as the Raptors picked-up Lebron, if they could.
