Grill Masters: Recommend me a grill

Our deck is finally finished, just in time for labor day weekend!

Recommend me a 3-4 burner gas grill. price range $250-400.

I got a grill I call penny candy you know what that means?
It look like Now n Laters, gum drops, jelly beans.
I wouldn't leave it for nothin', only a crazy man would...

That's what I was thinking as well since Labor day is like two weeks away.

Seems a few recommend Weber as the brand to go. Any particular reasons?

Mine is over 10 years old. I just replaced the ignitor ind burners and would be surprised to not get 5-10 more. Easy to get Weber replacement parts too.

My dad and brothers-in-law have had Char-Broils, Grill Masters, whatever the other common brands are, and seem to go through them once every few years or so. They may be half as expensive, but probably won't last half as long.

Nothing wrong with them, just depends on what you need and are comfortable spending right now, but if you catch a good sale you might get a Weber for around the upper end of your budget.

a couple of years after i bought my weber the ceramic coating on the cast iron grill plates started cracking and coming off. i called weber and told them and they sent me a free replacement set.

it was awesome.

Your asking for Grill Masters to recommend a Gas Grill?
Real masters use coal/wood, not gas.

i saw this weber grill on sale at lowes when i went into the store last weekend. sale price was $450.

i'm kicking myself for not buying a weber gas grill. my old kettle grill is going strong, whereas my POS kenmore has had many problems.

i bought this grill in the spring and is hands down the best grill i have EVER cooked on. they are pricy but you are buying quality that will last for 15+ years. in fact im going to cook rib steaks on it tonight. ill post pics.

i bought it to replace my Kenmore that my dad bought when i was 10 years old. just too many problem with it now, cant find a grate that fits as it should and i have replaced the burners 3 times since i inherited it 18 years ago. its still on my deck and cooks like shit. blazing hot spots and ice cold spots.... its hard to throw out something that has given me some great memories.

Thanks, I'll remember to fire up the giant wood grill next time I go home from work and want to make some damn hotdogs.

I'd use coal instead of wood, you can buy that by the ton, and then use it to heat your house. It'd also give your food a distinct taste.

Buy a Weber. Best $500 you'll ever spend. if you go cheap you will kick yourself when you finally buy a Weber and realize how superior they are.

Why the fuck would you stand outside to cook hot dogs on a gas grill?

If you are going to grill, then GRILL. But fuck sakes do it right. If you just want to heat meat you can get a lot of flavor out of your gas indoor oven, you dont need a gas outdoor oven.

Don't you have a stove? same difference.
There really is nothing that can compare to charcoal in terms of taste because of the nature of the coals themselves. It gives a more authentic flavour that can’t be replicated with a sauce alone, and it can be further enhanced using advanced barbecue techniques

You get what you pay for and 500 is about the starting point. Look for heavy (and I mean HEAVY) cast iron grates and burners that you can clean/remove. A nice heavy lid and a thermometer. Left to right burners are much better than front to back for heat control/indirect grilling, say left side off, right side on. For this reason I prefer 4 burners.

Webers are nice and made in America. They fit the bill on what a gas grill needs to be at a minimum and you can go up from there. Just took a look and the summit line is NICE. If I was going to get a new gas grill it MUST have a rotisserie.

-edit-
I notice the higher end of gas grills have stainless grates, I guess for quicker heat control. Dukane's have always been like that.

Homemade grill, all you need is a free weekend, welding machine, grinder and cutting torch.
