Great graphics, but since I don't have a wheel (at least connected) it's very tough. Seems like it could be very fun though with a wheel and pedals. (I used to love the original(?) Nascar game, which now sells for a ton on Ebay.)

I'm a fan of both sim and arcade-type racing games, and GRID is a great blend of styles. It's way more forgiving than Forza, but you can't floor it the entire time like NFS. I have the 360 wheel, but I don't have a way to connect it up to my PC. This game seems like it would be a little to frantic to play with a wheel though...

That said, it works great with the 360 gamepad. Even the buttons are all labeled correctly.

I noticed a few strange things. I can usually keep up against anyone on savage, with traction control on, and no breaking or stability assists. Automatic shifting as well. But, there will be 1 or 2 drivers that will pull ahead, and I can't catch up to them, they are godlike or whatever. It's usually players that excell in a certain type of race-event, like touring cars for example. Really weird if you ask me.

There's also a few tracks, including the Le Mans track, where driving without stability control ( prevents understeer ) really sucks, at least, with a keyboard it really sucks. You will NOT be able to take corners nearly as fast as the AI will, and you will simply lose to much time in doing so. I've won plenty of le mans races btw, but that's simply because I can outbrake them, take the lead position, and well, because the AI sucks, they will barely attempt a pass, so if you block them, no matter how slow you take a corner, they won't overtake you :p

Somtimes the AI is also really annoying, slamming into you when it's completely unnecesary. But overall, I enjoyed racing most of the races, because often enough the AI will also be pretty good, move out of the way if a collision is imminent, or they make mistakes just like anyone else, and the funny thing is, if you use a REPLAY, and a car crashed in front of you, it will NOT crash again, when you used the replay. Funny detail if you ask me ...

Graphics look good, game runs pretty smooth, it might be arcade like, but it can still be pretty realistic, if you don't use all the driving assists, and the physics/damage model are also pretty good ...

Yes, it supports Games for Windows Live. It also natively supports XBox 360 controllers.

Thanks to the OP for turning me onto this game. Running this in DX10 with 4xMSAA and 16xAF at 1680x1050 makes it look as good as or better than GT5 Prologue on PS3 IMHO. Game runs great in CrossfireX mode on dual HD3870s.

It doesn't use Live for Windows and doesn't have an achievement system but it does support the 360 pad out of the box.

i'm not sure about using a wheel.

using a WASD keyboard config has been working fine for me.

some races can be really tight, you just have to be on the ball, and aggressive on any turns/corners where the AI happens to suck at (they may slow down too much).

if you don't like some of those more difficult races, then you can skip them (or just finish them near last place) , and only do the ones you're good at and you can still advance.

Well it sounds like everyone is really enjoying the game. Too bad for me it won't run past the loading screen. :(

I tried emailing Codemasters tech support, and they suggested disabling my sound card, which did nothing to solve the problem (crashes to desktop right after the grid loading screen). This is with the Steam version of the game. I tried running the game with "-novirtual" in the launch command line, but still no help.

I bought a wireless XBOX 360 controller, this is MUCH better. My problem was my wired Logitech rumblepad was not recognized by default so I set it up a profile, but it did not give me analogue controls, that's why it was jerky.

Now I just gotta get used to the new controller, it's kinda weird to me to use the LT & RT buttons for gas and brakes.

if you cant manage to pass them (say Ravenwest) on any tight corners then you could try doing this

a pretty effective crash, no? it worked good, my team took 1st and 2nd.

Wow this game is F'in great. Very accessible game for everyone as it is indeed more of a mix of a sim and arcade while leaning more towards arcade by default. However turn off all the assistance crap and this game gets a way more sim feel.

I was playing all day today with my old Nyko Airflo controller and for some reason I dropped the controller and the air thingy no longer works. At first I thought it was gimmicky but it truly did help in the 24 hr Le mans races when my hands were full of sweat.

I just skip Le Mans. I really like the drift competitions. I make tons of money on those.

All Codemasters racing games are crap by default. All the CMR games were crap and this was further crap. Ran like ass, looked like shit, and generally handled like shit WITH a 360 controller. Sorry...but I'll take my Forza 2.

Comparing the PC version of GRID to a 360 game is slightly unfair but seeing how I play on both systems with the same controller, it's pretty sad that one falls extremely short of what I call a good racing game. Forza 2 was easy to pick up for me and GRiD was complete crap from the get-go.

To each his own I guess.

I find Forza 2 to be totally boring. There is hardly any feel of speed at all. Going 90 in that game feels like going 30 in real life. The tracks are dull and boring and all feel alike. I guess if you're one of those car geeks who loves putting different exhaust pipes on and crap, you could probably spend all day "working" on your car in Forza 2. If you have the reflexes comparable to a slug trying to escape a beach of salt, then you'll do great at Forza.

Oh and graphics are ass compared to GRID and DiRT. If you can't at least admit that then you are simply in denial, or have a shitty Monitor / TV =p

Someone once told me Call of Duty 4 graphics were crap compared to Team Fortress 2. I found out he was running his games on 800x600 resolution settings and using a 6600GT.

Pretty good game, not very realistic, but a million times better than the NFS games. I still prefer GTR2, but GRiD is much prettier to look at...

The braking is just ridiculous, the car can go from 300km/h to 0 in a 10 feet distance. :D

finally got a card capable of playing this game (hd4850) and boy is it hard! should be noted that i'm generally bad at racing games, but man some of these races are frustrating. it looks really good, though. and it's super fun. i guess i'll just keep trying until i get the hang of it.

Anyone having the BSOD with the "video memory manager" error? I've been getting that recently, all other games running fine (COD4, ET:QW, FIFA 08, etc).

:| The exhaust pipes in Forza 2 actually change the sound and performance of the car. What you're talking about is ricing and that would be most of the Need For Speed games released in the past 4 years. Please try a higher powered car in Forza 2 before you go off spouting that a stock Saab 9-3 feels too slow. GRID and every single CMR game has that central axle that completely annoys the hell out of me. It doesn't even feel like a driving game when your car turns on an axle. I'm sure graphics in GRID and DIRT are great...but I couldn't really care less for graphics on a game given that the graphics are decent enough but has an amazing physics system backing it. Function > form.
