Alright, what's the deal with these? I've recently heard tons of positive things from numerous triathletes during the post-race chow down about greens supplements. A quick google search shows there are umpteen different brands and I see claims from "they're magical" to "they're filled with poison."

Anybody have some objective information on greens supplements and whether they're worth anything at all?

Its processed to some extent. You are better off eating it as real food than you are ground up and proccessed

So I should just go out and grab some stalks of wheat to chew on instead of eating whole wheat spaghetti noodles?

I know that "real food" is best. That wasn't my question. My question was, what is the worth of these supplements as supplemental intake to real food?

Which ones specifically are you referring to? My opinion is most of those types are pyramid marketing bs, but I am sure there are legit ones amongst the sh1t ones. So in a general sense eating the food before it is ground up is the best input I can offer

I was asking in generality because I've only heard two discussed from some fellow triathletes - Vibrant Greens and Vitamineral Green. A google search shows there are 20+ other brands, and there seem to be no legitimate reviews.

Are these the same guys that have Power Balance bracelets? There are plenty of things athletes swear by, and they are far from the authority on what actually works and what is snake oil.

I would avoid Greens supplements unless they are literally dehydrated greens that are then ground into power. And, I have a strong feeling, that isn't the case.

Pretty sure it's ground up, real food.

discussion\

I don't know of many green veggies you can ground up, put in a bottle on the shelf, and eat a year later.

If you want your veggie fix in a shake, just throw some fresh kale, broccoli, etc. in a blender. Don't be suckered into supplement company claims as if they have some magic potion. Nothing beats real food, you can easily DIY in this case.

Actually, I'm pretty sure that's exactly how they are made.

Edit: And, never heard of or seen anyone wearing a Power Balance bracelet.

Controlled Labs Orange Triad + Greens is pretty good, it's was one of the best multi-vitamins now they added greens. The taste is kind of meh, not undrinkable but it's not something I looked forward too. Yes whole foods are always better, but for a SUPPLEMENT this is a good one.
