Screw Biggy, he's overrated. I also would say Tupac is too, the whole murder thing just sparked their popularity.

i hope you're kidding.

you could defeinitely cut the list down to 5 though.

Biggie
2Pac
Jay Z
Nas
Eminem

Rakim had like 2 good songs and fell off.
Canibus couldnt even hold his own against LL and had one decent comeback song.
Dre as the best producer...fine, but not rapper.
Some other pretty ridiculous reponses here....DMX? Common?

he may or may not have been joking, but ill say it... overrated! granted, he had a few tracks, but seriously, would he be as popular as he was if he didnt die and diddy made songs dedicated/featuring him posthumously? maybe its just that his flow/production/lyrics dont appeal to me. to each his own i suppose.

common is great. his album, 'resurrection' is incredible. but yeah, im with you on that dmx one.

edit: and i agree with the canibus also. hell, i was even upset when i found out canibus laid down a battle rap at a show a week or two ago. black thought was there, ?uest on the drums, and these cats were on some social minded issues... and bis shows up doing a battle rap verse. i heard it was extremely out of place and just not the right enviroment for that.

One thing I really like about eminem is how he seems to have matured. At first he was just going out of his way to insult people. Now he has a lot of substance to his music and still throws the insults around but it's more of a passing thing.

Talent wise, I think Eminem is near the top (if not the best). Dre is probably the best producer and Tupac is very influential.

They are all in their own category and you can't really compare them side by side.

Greatest rapper of all time has to encompass more than "so and so had this ONE great album...".

I respect everyone's opinon, but it's the hard to argue that the below 5 have NOT had 3-4 great albums. if not more.

Jay Z
Nas
Eminem
Pac
Biggie

Where the hell is RUN DMC???? They started it all!!!!! If you're gonna post a thread about the best rapper/s you better include them. Without them it wouldn't be what it is today.

Too $hort has been making albums since before most of the others on the list could walk and continues to do so. Never be another that could top his success.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

hey man, make fun of him all you want, he stuck by his guns and produced "clean" music. And he is pretty talented, as an entertainer...he can do it all.

uhhh since when does music have to be "clean"? i mean, what's the point of that, it doesn't make him "above" them or anything because he doesn't use cuss words.

maybe there should be underground artists on there, like Slug from atmosphere, or aesop rock from the def jux label. those people have a lot of talent and it isn't that gangster rap stuff. masta ace is also very talented, vinnie paz, ikon the hologram, ghostface killah, RZA, GZA, method man, qwel, robust, punchline, wordsworth, raekwon, prime, pugslee atomz, all those people are far better than 50 cent, jermaine dupri, too short, busta, big pun, mc ren, eazy e, b-real, and ll cool j.

Nas, Jay Z, 25 Cent, Busta Rhymes, Ludacris and Baby Jesus made the list

but no Jam Master Jay, Eric B, Q-Tip, Phife or Ali Shaheed Muhammad?

Motion for ban?

And I'll tell you somebody else who should be on that list, Big Daddy Kane. Kane was short lived, but man brotha was nice.

Wow, I actually agree with you on something...

"Wild Wild West...." :music:

Shock G. deserves to be on your list, for both his solo work and his time with Digital Underground. Eminem and others would give their left nut to be able to write a song like Humpty Dance or Doowutchyalike.
