What about Canibus. He has amazing flow and rythm. And he actually spits out intelligent rhymes.

Don't forget underground artists like Jurassic 5 and Tonedeff. They aren't the most influential or hte greatest simply because they are fairly new. But give them some time, they can and will mature into something great.

Jesus guys....He made the poll trying to encompass what EVERYONE might say....not what he thinks. You know there are some people here that voted for 50, so obviously, someone has that opinion.

2pac. the man spoke of the struggles minorities face, life, love, the streets, politics. he could be serious or just make a song that will get the people to move. he spent endless hours in the studio, so much that he still has material sitting in vault sthat have yet to see the light of day. and it isnt all filler, and a lot of stuff he discusses can still be relevant and related to the issues we face to this day. thats why i voted pac.

btw, im not criticizing the list, but i do believe there are more deserving performers that should be on there. but its always great to see a hip hop thread on this forum, so beggars cant be choosers.

Eminem is really political also and he rapped about things that are bigger than just being poor and black , well granted he isn't black to start with, you get the point hopefully

just a very small list. but a beginning.
 
top 5 would even be hard to get alot of people to agree on theres been so many great ones.

also by the way, strong rumor is that dre doesnt compose a lot of his recent lyrics. there are been mumblings that he has ghostwriters. not knockin' dre, just passing along what ive heard. just wish he would give his producers some more credit (ie: mel man).

dre's never beed good lyrically. anything good he ever said id bet someone wrote for him. hes a much better producer.

Another person who is fairly new that I heard IS a ghostwriter is T.I. Evidently, he has written a lot of Bow Wow's rhymes. (This was merely mentioning some ghostwriting people might find interesting)
