I was looking for a new TV and found some great prices on LED TVs from TCL on Amazon. I had never heard of TCL before but decided to give it a try after reading reviews. I also heard many people claiming TCL TVs often use Samsung panels.

I ended up going with the 42" TV for $390 ($4 one-day shipping with Prime!). Picture quality is awesome, even out of the box. Looks fantastic when calibrated. I wouldn't be surprised if it is indeed using a Samsung panel. Build quality is also really solid, and I like the metallic, thin bezel and the glass base. It's a good looking TV in every sense of the word!

The sound quality is pretty bad, though, and the remote is very basic. It's also fairly limited in the number of video inputs like most smaller and/or budget TVs. There's also a bit of backlight bleed, but nothing I haven't seen in nicer TVs or computer monitors before. It also has noticeable ghosting compared to my 120Hz Asus gaming monitor...but I think that's also pretty typical with most LCD TVs.

The 46" at the time was $460 but has gone up since. The 32" is currently $250. Seems like the prices fluctuate. Here's the link for the 42". You can switch between the other two models on the same page:

I would have jumped on this deal had it been a 120Hz refresh rate. 60 hz especially with LED is just not good enough. Myabe wait for BF deals.

Samsung panels <> Samsung panels. Still not a bad price on a TV for someone that can't afford better.

I have a TCL 32" thin bezel back lit LCD bought from Costco. It's been running great.

I bought the TCL 39" 1080p LED from Amazon for my youngest son's room, and the picture is great (and runs MUCH cooler than my oldest son's 40" Sammy LCD)! Sound is ok, but it does have 3.5mm audio out, so I hooked up a 2.1 set of Creative speakers.

Seems every off-brand has people claiming it uses a Samsung panel. I typically don't see anyone confirming the actual panel brand/model used. The best I can hope for is a lower grade Samsung panel (I'm sure Samsung saves the A+ and A grade panels for themselves and OEMs who pay the premium).

As for TCL, they've been stellar for a brand most people haven't heard of. They became popular last Holiday shopping season with some deals Amazon was running. Certainly better than other brands like Coby.
