This happened in Delhi, where my parents & dog live. Mom & driver were taking Kaza for a walk - he'd just entered the park and was doing his business when the other dog, who had apparently gotten loose from his house across the street & run into the park, ran towards him and jumped on him.
Kaza ran out of the park and back to our car which was in the parking lot ~60ft away (his leash must have slipped out of my Mom's hand when he ran). The dane chased him there & bit him on his neck right next to our car. The servants from the dane's house managed to catch up to him and get him under control, and my mom unlocked the car and Kaza jumped inside.
After getting the dane's owners' information (they weren't home, just the servants), they went straight to the vet. Kaza had a deep puncture wound on his neck, they had to put him under anesthesia & give him 5 stitches. I don't think any arteries/veins were hit as I imagine it would have been much more serious. He's resting at home now, went for a pee in the garden, and has been drinking water. He's very shaken up though.
As far as I know great dane's aren't very aggressive dogs. I'd imagine the dog that attacked Kaza may not be living with the most loving family. The owners work for the U.S. Embassy in delhi - my dad is trying to find out more information. Our vet said that 3 other dogs have been bitten by a great dane near that same park.
