WTF? If you NEED a calculator for your class and you can't afford one brand new, but you think you're too good for eBay, that sounds pretty bratty to me.

I didn't say i'm too good for ebay. I said i don't TRUST ebay. Which means i don't want to risk it being delivered all broken up and then having to go through arguments.

Real smart statement. The millions that have used eBay have all been screwed over. It's not that difficult to shop with eBay and be safe, just check feedback and make sure it looks legit.

My friend's video card was delivered with chunks of it broken in the box itself.

Well, at my school, I bought 2 of 'em for 20 bucks each from a couple of druggies. They didn't see a need for them, and hey, its 20 bucks!

Theres no point arguing. Just because one person you know had a bad deal with eBay doesn't mean all deals on eBay are bad. If you're short on cash and don't know anyone selling @ your school, then eBay is your best bet.

The TI graphing calculators are very expensive but IMO worth it. I still have my TI-86 I bought during my Freshman year of HS... in 1996! Still works great and I use it almost daily. I spilled some pop on it back in '99 so some of the buttons are sticky the first time I use them for the day but it is not enough of an issue for me to bother taking it apart and cleaning it. It was a huge help in college (especially for Adv multi-variable calc) and I use it for more "normal" use these days.

Get one from ebay or check your local craigs list if you have it. You can almost be certain someone is willing to give theirs up for cheap.

Many years ago I got my first TI calc when my sister let me borrow the one the school gave her (it was a TI-81, she purchased the 82.) I was hooked. I'm a calculator whore and I don't even have too much use for them anymore. Anyone else wind up collectiing them? I got the 82, then 83, 86, 92 (I replaced my parents roof and they got that for me!) then in college when it came out, the 89.

I'd get the 89 if you had a choice, but the 84 might be better for you if you just want to follow along with what the teacher is doing. I'd check out ebay or FS/FT too as others mentioned. Heck, if you were nicer and had paypal maybe people would help you towards your cause.

Yes i can afford it, it just pains me spending allmost $100 that i've worked for on a damn calculator.

usually highschools let you borrow graphing calculators from them (my highschool did), and you would return them at the end of the year. So just ask your teacher or math department if they're lending out calculators.

if this is not an option (meaning, your school does not lend them out), just use ebay. And if you're too stubborn to use ebay, stop whinning and buy the damn calculator from a retail store. Think of it this way, its about $90 to buy it. But, you WILL use for the full 4 years in highschool and possibly in college. I believe its a great investment.

Do you not read posts? The Ti-83 is pretty much identical to the 84, other then a lack of a USB port and a little less memory. The 84 is NOT required in a Geometry course, as the 83 is virtually the same.

Well, the 84 is the updated version of the 83s, so it would figure to be cheaper. I would still have to say get a used 89 (not titanium), wayyyy more useful. If you're going to be spending almost $100 already, try and shell out a little more for something that will truly help you for calc and stuff.
