GPS on a plane

I have trouble believing that there are ANY commonly used consumer devices which can cause "interference" on a plane.

...of course, I'm sure that someone's going to pop in here and mention something that I didn't think of.😉

They got really pissed when I used my blender last time. I warned that little brat to shut up and stop kicking my seat. Little fucker just wouldn't listen. Had me a Timmy Margarita.

except your nail clipper will get confiscated 🙂

im sure my "consumer grade" EMPulse generator might affect the plane... but then again, i cant be sure.

This is different from one airline to the next. Usually it's listed in the inflight magazine. Some specifically include it as a device that can be used.

The irony about cell phones in airplanes is that it's quite common that aircraft with comm failure will phone the nearest ATC unit. Haven't heard of any planes falling out of the sky from pilots making cell phone calls...

The two biggest reasons why they really don't want to allow cell phone use:
#1: passengers can use some peace and quiet
#2: it drives cell phone systems nuts when a connection is jumping cells every 4 seconds

I love using GPS on the plane, especially if the GPS software maps out the actual airport. GPS + Google Earth Satellite View = Sweetness. You see yourself taxi-ing around the airport, circling around the sky, whatever. You can figure out the plane's 0-60mph, and it's always awesome to see your altitude rise.

The rationale used to be that you might be using the GPS to gather and relay flight info to terrists on the ground. Apparantly terrists got tired of waiting around for Delta flights to finally show up and took to tracking them with GPS instead of relying on the screens at the airport.

I've used my gps a few times on the plane and the stewardesseseseses said there was no problem with it.

lol EMPs are definitely not common and I don't see how you can take it on board. That thing requires a lot of energy.

lol and how are you relaying this info from the plane? Oh wait, the cell phone....

fail. treadmill IN a plane <> Plane on Treadmill

And it takes off even on treadmill.

yup, they tell me to turn off the ipod everytime, except that ipods can't be turned off unless linux is installed...

Well we already know the plane takes off on it, we have never tested it the other way around 😛

no need to test, plenty of treadmill get air cargoed.

The question is if you turn the treadmill on does it launch you out the back of the plane at 498 mph?

who cares. Frame of reference dictates the treadmill inside the plane cannot affect the plane.

depends on your landspeed.
