Gov. Walker and WI's master plan

So average salary was 50k, she got free pension, 3 months off a year, and didn't pay for her benefits. IMO that's worth wayy more the 15k less in income.

Any teacher worth the name knows the whole '3 months off a year' thing is BS. My mother is a teacher and after she puts in her normal day at school, she has after school activities she runs, before going home to grade papers. She easily works 10-12 hour days during the week.

There are other jobs that require that too, yes. The fact is though, that teacher's day is probably quite a bit longer than most people making $35k.

The same people who sneer with glee at every anti-union effort and yet have no problem with corporate extortion tactics are the ones with the problems. They are the people who argued about "unnecessary and unconstitutional government interference" when those things I mentioned were implemented. It's only 100 years of inertia that prevents those issues from being reargued, but argued they were back then, by the same sorts of free-market advocates. In your post however it seems you've conceded child labor laws are ok, so congrats on that.

No, I'm just intelligent enough to recognize three different issues, that should be addressed separately, with proper considerations for each.

Teachers: Union prompted members to call in sick

RACINE - Representatives from the Racine Education Association teachers' union asked teachers to call in sick Thursday because of a controversial proposal from Gov. Scott Walker to end most collective bargaining rights of unions, including teachers unions, according to several teachers and Racine Unified staff members.
But the REA maintains that teachers were not instructed to call in sick.
So many Racine Unified teachers called in sick - about 25 percent of the teaching workforce - that Unified announced at 6 a.m. Thursday they would not have enough staff present to hold classes, according to Unified spokeswoman Stacy Tapp. She said about 400 teachers and about 100 other staff members called in sick or used personal days Thursday. The teachers union has about 1,640 members and the district employs a total of about 2,600 people.

fvck the Teacher's union.

you are really grasping there.
you really think that if unions were abolished today, that sweat shops would start popping up all over the country?

Another example, I know a "Computer Peripheral Specialist" that works for a public school. He plugs in monitors, keyboards, and mice. 17.5 an hour plus full benefits.

I don't need my tax dollars being wasted on this. State buildings need to operate like everyone else. The AV guys for this school have more than enough time to hook up keyboards and mice, they're just lazy, and the system is very forgiving of inefficiency. Where will it stop? Space bar admins, Power cord admins, right click admins, and of course USB admins.
And I know a guy who posts how union workers are lazy and over paid while he's on his employers dime.

Median household income (typically two people, sometimes one) was 50k. So with a little bit of fuzzy math, the avg. income per person is 25k to 30k per year. She was making more than that. If this teacher got married or moved into a two-income household, the annual median income would most likely be more than 50k.

These teachers obviously care about the kids. They are willing to have them sit at home in front of the Xbox so they can fight over money.

as long as it's not my tax money going to support that company, he can do whatever the fuck he wants.

why can't you pro-union people get that into ur skulls?

Think it through. To a Liberal, unions demanding public money is perfectly fine and a business making money is evil. Liberals love them some unions and "free" money.

And I know a guy who posts how union workers are lazy and over paid while he's on his employers dime.

Personal surfing is allowed with certain exceptions, so yes, I'm being paid right now, but that's the agreement I have with my employer. Completely irrelevant to the discussion at hand.

Well it seems to me it's all you Union hating assholes who are posting on your employers dime while those who are union are busy working yet you have no qualms calling them lazy and overpaid.

Aside from Firefighters and the Police I can't think of a more important occupation that's so important to society and all you fucks can do is say how overpaid and underworked they are.

Oh and I love the comment by another one of you Yahoos in this thread slamming the teachers calling a sickout because their students parents were going to have to find babysitters.:awe:

With the decline of Unions in this country the Middle Class has declined while the top 1% has reaped the benefits.

Yet you say your brother is over paid for making $12 an hour:whiste:

Another issue with unions is that by default, the employee/management relationship automatically becomes adversarial. Raises, benefits, etc are not awarded by individual performance and merit, but by negotiation.

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2011/02/17/teachers-march-wisconsin-capitol-senate-moves-curtail-union-rights/

Apparently the Democrat members of the Wisconsin Senate have FLED the state. They are doing this because 1 member of the party must be present to do a vote on this issue and if they are in the state of Wisconsin the police can pick them up and FORCE them to the chamber.

Its unclear if the police can cross state lines to get them and they are at an 'undisclosed' location.

What an absolute PATHETIC excuse for a party. They lost the last election in a massive landslide, lost the governor race, and now they are resorting to fleeing the state to protect big unions.

^ Wow, way to let democracy run its course there Wisconsin democrats. Maybe a couple should be throwin in jail...

Who says they're inefficient, you the guy who posts here on his employers dime?

It's real simple, if I'm caught up, I can surf. The fact that I'm surfing is a testament that I am efficient. But you're just trolling anyway, you have no idea what I do.

One very good point on the radio today was that when Walker was a city manager, he was forced to balance the budget by firing people because he had no other tools to balance the budget. By asking unionized public employees to pick up more of their own pension and health insurance costs (though still significantly better than those whose taxes pay their salaries), he can avoid firing so many public employees.

Of course, the other side has good points too. Demanding that "someone else" be taxed more heavily to pay their benefits, refusing to do their jobs unless they have they way, fleeing the state to avoid doing the jobs for which they are paid. . . Yup, some winning points there!
